I own an iPad Air and an iPhone 6 Plus. I have not touched my iPad Air since my iPhone 6 Plus arrived.
I am a huge Apple fan and, through my business, I also have the ability to write-off my technology purchases. I am also an Apple shareholder. I’m a great example of someone who would concoct pretty much any reason to own both devices. However – and as an Apple shareholder, this is concerning – if I had an iPhone 6 Plus first, I would struggle to find a compelling reason to ever buy an iPad.
If, after just two weeks with my iPhone 6 Plus, I am struggling to find a reason, this bodes very, very poorly for Apple’s iPad Air – and near certain death for iPad mini. IBM had better do an excellent job of quickly moving iPad into the enterprise!
Now that I have my Plus and have used it extensively, it is very doubtful that I will ever buy another iPad unless or until there is a 12-inch iPad that weighs a 1.25 pounds (566 grams) or less.
Again, I am the very person most likely to buy both an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPad. I don’t see how people with different budgetary concerns (buying these devices with their own discretionary income) will ever buy both an iPhone 6 Plus and any iPad. At this point, from what I’ve experienced, every iPhone Plus that Apple sells very likely means no future iPad sale and almost certainly kills future iPad mini sales.

Not at all. I love both my iPhone 6 Plus 128 GB and my cellular iPad Air 2 128 GB.
I just wish the Apple SIM card was interchangeable with all carriers. AT&T and Verizon force you to change the SIM out. As such, I just stuck with AT&T. Through a lot of tough work I was also able to get a 4GB data plan for it that includes the built-in personal hotspot capability, for $30/month.

Disagree totally. I bought the iPhone 6 plus and the iPad Air 2. The iPhone 6 is ok on the go but not when I can get to sit down in my family room and browse the internet. The 5.5 inch screen is way too small for full page browsing especially in your later years.

Absolutely. I have a MacBook Pro, a MacBook air and an iPhone 5S. I also have a 3rd generation iPad which I rarely use.
The iPad is due for a serious reboot. It needs I/O and a filesystem that is user accessible. Until then it’s going to remain a large iPod Touch. It’s a useful device as it is but until it has I/O and a user accessible filesystem it will always need to be tethered to a computer at some point. It’s time for the iPad to grow into a real computer. Apple can keep the walled garden app store, and build walls around the filesystem, but until you can attach storage and manipulate files it will never be a real computer.
So at this point even an iPhone 5S can do anything the iPad can do, an iPhone 6+ makes the iPad even more irrelevant.
