“Apple is expected to release new high-resolution monitors by the end of fourth-quarter 2014, according to WitsView,” Julian Ho and Alex Wolfgram report for DigiTimes.

“Apple will release 27-inch 5K3K high-resolution iMac models by the end of the fourth quarter of 2014, WitsView said, adding that the new iMacs along with other Ultra HD monitors are expected to spur a new wave of demand for Ultra HD monitors in the market,” Ho and Wolfgram report.

    1. I’ve been pounding apple do some of the things you mentioned too over the years.

Macs have LOWER market share than iPhone. There’s big opportunities there to sell more with Win 8 floundering and halo effect of iOS.
it’s only recently that they started running Mac Ads again (stickies ad) but that only briefly. It’s sad they don’t push macs harder and emphasize how well they work (the ecosystem) with iOS

Macs are great, more people should be using them.

still I love the new products, phones , watch as well…

  1. The MacBook Pro Retina Display, has to render at 3800×2400 in order to have scaling look good at lower resolutions. That resolution is the 16:10 equivalent to supposed broadcast 4K. Keep in mind true 4K is 4096×2160.

With that said, you can actually set the display to that resolution, (with third party tools) and read most everything. This is not a useable PDI, which means your Dock and menu bar are too small for practical use. However You can go to YouTube and decently play 4K streams and they look amazing.

With that said, I would suggest that Apple could release a 4K, Retina HD 27″ iMac, not keeping to the typical Retina standard. It will still look amazing, but it won’t have to 300DPI over a 27″ diagonal. At 4K, the DPI would be about 150. For a true Retina display the resolution would have to be close to 7200….

I don’t think we are ready for 8K displays.

  2. The wife probably won’t be pleased with me over the next several months, if true:

I’ve already ordered a new iPhone

Probably going to have to be a part of history with an Apple Watch

And I’ve been waiting for a retina iMac to replace my mid-2011 27-incher . . . unless it dies, it’s the only thing that would get me to do it.
