Apple lists unannounced Mac mini model on support page

“Apple seems to have inadvertently referenced a new model of Mac mini on an Apple Support page,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac.

“The page was last modified yesterday, presumably to include information on the new MacBook Pro’s but instead lists ‘Mac mini (Mid 2014)’ as a supported machine,” Mayo reports. “[According to Brian Stucki via Twitter], ‘Looks like the page has been updated. Mac mini is gone, but no additional MBP listed so seems a legit leak.'”

  1. Sadly, I’d say the chances of it staying easy to work on, upgradeable, and full of I/O (including FireWire), plus the card slot are slim unfortunately. It’s currently a great design. Too bad they didn’t offer a decent 21.5″ monitor to go with it.

  2. Meh. When they announce it for real, I’ll be interested. Mac minis are awesome. What a shame a lot of Mac buyers totally forget about them. I have a Mac mini late 2012. I installed 16GB of RAM, and I used a dual drive kit from iFixit to add an SSD. It runs very fast, and the original hard drive serves as a dual boot solution for running Yosemite betas.

    1. Love mine! Maxed it to 16GB.

Of interest: There’s a guy in the comments to the source article who claims (perhaps by mistake) that he has 32GB in his Mac Mini. That’s supposed to be impossible due to slot and firmware constraints. I can’t find a thing on the Internet indicating it can feasibly be done.

      1. It has to be a mistake, unless he has somehow hacked his system to allow it. I was surprised when I found out that the 2011 Mac minis supported 16GB. Apple didn’t advertise it. Instead, they conservatively listed the maximum RAM as 8GB. They did the same with the 2011 MacBook Pros. I’m looking forward to 32GB of RAM in a MacBook Pro 🙂

    1. At least you can wait a little longer: I’ve been waiting for almost a year for the new Mac minis to appear and then a few days ago my old 11 year-old G4 started dying. So I had to buy a Mac mini now which arrived in the mail 2 days ago, one day before the leak. What are the odds??!!

  3. As of midnight EDT, where I’m located, the ‘leak’ is right there on the Apple document page. I took a PDF of it. If the ‘leak’ was ever pulled, it’s back again:

    Mac mini (Mid 2014) 5 5 – – – –

Still nothing new at the Apple or Apple Store web pages.

    One smart person ALSO noticed:
Looks like there will be a new iMac 27 too : “iMac (27-inch, Mid 2014)”. Only the 21.5 was announced.

It’s all part of the July 29th strangeness. I bet that wormhole from an alternative reality is gone in the morning. 😉

  4. Been waiting for a new mini for months now. Dying to recycle this MBPro that can’t be updated. No way I’ll buy the 2 year old mini though. Anyway, “mid-2014” has come and gone is anyone actually working at Cupertino?
