Apple releases MacBook Air SMC Update v2.0

Apple today released MacBook Air SMC Update v2.0 which is recommended for MacBook Air (Mid 2013) models.

This update addresses an issue which may cause the battery to drain faster than expected when the lid is closed.

Note: Your computer’s power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source, or your battery must be at least 25% charged. When your computer restarts, a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update. Your computer’s fans will run at full speed during the update but will return to normal speed once the update completes. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your computer during this update.

System Requirements:
• OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 & later
• OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 & later

MacBook Air SMC Update v2.0 is available via Software Update and also via standalone installer.

  1. I think they should look onto earlier versions of MBA as well.. after installing mavericks on my 2011 11″ MBA my battery life immediately dropped to about 2 hours… The support people simply told me that it was my batteries getting old.. even though I explained it was 4 hours before the install and 2 hours after the install.. the batteries did not just suddenly lose half their capacity!

  2. I did this update today and when it requested to restart my laptop and once I did my laptop did not work or start up as normal, my battery was reduced to 10% (prior to update it was 53%). My screen turned blue, I did the command option P, R reset, the shift option v safe boot and nothing worked. Everytime I power off and turn it back on it shows me the gray sreen with a spinning wheel.. Please help thanks
