An Apple acquisition the real reason Microsoft is porting OneNote to the Mac

The Verge has reported that Microsoft is planning on releasing OneNote for the Mac. While Evernote is certainly a target, I think there’s more to the story than that,” Lou Miranda blogs.

“There are also rumors of iOS 8 containing a note-taking application. How this app differs from the built-in iOS Notes app is not clear, but it may have a lot to do with this acquisition by Apple: Catch,” Miranda writes. “Catch is pointed out to be an Evernote competitor, but the article above notes that Catch had an enterprise component that even Apple employees used.”

Miranda writes, “With updates to iWork coming over the next couple of years–and the iWork apps sharing the same functionality across iOS and OS X – I think it’s pretty clear that Catch will be turned into more of a OneNote competitor than an Evernote competitor (or, of course, a competitor to both).”

  1. Hey Mac fans! How are you doing today? You’ll love what I have to tell you today. I have asked my OneNote development team to make a real flat, 2-D looking app, with yellow text on a white background. That’ll make it real easy to use. Just wait to you see our 2-D OneNote app; you’ll want to drop the Note native app. Real innovation going on at Microsoft folks. Flatter icons! 2-D effect! 8-bit colors!

    Where is Clippy?

“Once a flagship user interface assistant that guided users in the early days of personal computing, Clippy was unceremoniously
dumped by Microsoft with the release of XP. Well publicized bar brawls quickly followed, alcoholic comas, and the career ending viral sex tape with Microsoft Bob [audio from tape: "aaaahh scissor me Clippy....scissor me!"].

Clippy is now on the road to recovery. A fifth level vegan and practitioner of tantric meditation, Clippy is now looking forward to the future and will soon get an opportunity for redemption as the new virtual assistant in the upcoming release of OneNote for Macintosh.”
