“Microsoft is behind the schedule it used for the last several iterations, and has not breathed a word about its Mac intentions,’ Gregg Keizer writes for Computerworld. “In fact, the blog kept by the California-based development team that works on Office for Mac hasn’t been updated since Aug. 5, 2013, more than seven months ago.
“The last time Microsoft launched a new Office for OS X was October 2010, when it rolled out Office for Mac 2011,” Keizer writes. “Prior to that, Microsoft issued upgrades in January 2008 (Office for Mac 2008), May 2004 (Office for Mac 2004) and November 2001 (Office v. X).”
“The average spread between Office for Mac editions — going back as far as Office v. X — has been 1,088 days,” Keizer writes. “But as of Thursday, it had been 1,213 days since the launch of Office for Mac 2011.”

MacDailyNews Take: Who cares; isn’t Office bloated enough already?
The question is of course, facetious. 😉 We’ve all moved on to iWork/Google Docs, etc.
Nice knowin’ ya, MSFT!
I use Excel frequently. However, I regard Word as an abomination and PowerPoint as an insult to intelligence. If Microsoft makes a decent Excel for iPad, I would pay for it, even if Office is the only way to get it. I would prefer a standalone app, which is inherently more secure than an enforced cloud version. I detest subscription models that robbers such as Adobe so delightedly employ.
This was covered when the latest version of office shipped Balmer himself said there would not be a native OS X version of office. He said all non-Windows users can use the web version of Office 365. That direction has not changed. There has been no indication from the journalists that follow Microsoft, like Mary Jo Foley, that there is any OS X version of Office in the works. In fact the next version of Office, Office 16, is due by mid 2015. So if there was any chance that Microsoft was going to release an OS X version of office has evaporated by now. We have been hearing for almost 2 years an iOS version is coming. That would be a much bigger market for Office than OS X.
Were going to, we’re about to, it’s on our radar, roadmap, looking into it, looking at it, blah blah blah … don’t hold your breath mac community.
Bingo, who needs office? Simple solutions like Google Drive are better than office.
