Analyst: iPad 5 and iPad mini with Retina display will sport 8MP rear cameras w/ larger aperture

“With Apple’s rumored next-generation iPads expected to be launching as early as this month, often reliable KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is sharing some new details on the expected iPad 5 and second generation iPad mini,” Jordan Kahn reports for 9to5Mac.

“Kuo is still expecting both products to launch later this year sometime in 4Q13, but in his latest report claims that Apple is prepping a camera upgrade for the new iPads that would include a bump up from the current 5 megapixel iSight camera to 8 megapixels along with other improvements,” Kahn reports. “[Kuo writes, ‘Apple could upgrade the camera as a selling point for the new iPad in a bid to increase competitiveness. We expect the upgrade will include 8MP rear camera, up from 5MP, and larger aperture. Lens module ASP will rise 10-20% on this optics spec upgrade.'”

    1. I see you’ve switched out your avatar now that the Yankees are out of it. Never fear, they’ll doubtless be back next season! Let’s only hope that the Sox are demolished in the playoffs, maybe by the Athletics.

Meanwhile, the campaign against Obama must continue, so I support your new avatar. Mind, I mainly object to his hijacking of the Constitution, not his nebulous liberal leanings.

      1. I support universal health care as we have in Canada. No, there are not huge waiting lists for medical care and we all are better for it. The US mentality seems to be that the diseases of the poor won’t affect the rich who have health care and “I’m OK and its your fault that you are poor.”

        1. My sister lives up in Vancouver. She has suffered from severe thyroid deficiency for many years. Her husband suffered from multiple sclerosis, and recently died of it. Over the last twenty years, the family would have suffered even more—from poverty and the associated lack of treatment—had they remained in the U.S., because of exorbitant health care and insurance costs.

Obama’s (or Romney’s) approach to affordable health care might have made a difference in their choices — they might have been partying with me here in the U.S. right now! As it is, we remain sadly separated because of a poisonous political stalemate that has wrecked everyone’s chance of decent treatment.

A long time ago my brother-in-law (a refugee from Communist Hungary) pointed out that living in the U.S. might seem ideal to certain capitalist or religious purists, but all governments were subject to subversion. He cited Watergate. Had he lived until today, he’d have been able to cite NSAGate and ClimateGate.

Hard times, isn’t it, when the best-looking political leader is the newly elected President of Iran.

        2. No way your going to convince me that the former US did not have the best and fastest healthcare. Your folks must have had no means whatsoever. I get that. But people come to the USA to get cured far more than the reverse so nice try. Obama is ruining that. Stay in Canada. If you don’t like the USA, LEAVE. You won’t. We don’t want to be France.

        3. … “The Best Medicine Money Can Buy”. If you have the money, or are supported by a charity, you get the best medicine. Else, you either die from lack of care or you go bankrupt. When you have a disease that costs thousands – or hundreds of thousands – a year, you need to be 1% wealthy to survive a couple of years.
Now … listen to @warbux and take your uninformed political screed elsewhere … please.

        4. Are you on crack ? Our hospitals are a disaster and way underfunded. Quality of doctors is suspect, all the good ones leave. Emergency wards are over crowded, wait times for critical medical procedures can be several months. I know people who suffer many months of agonizing pain waiting for the treatment they need. You should hear BS my sister in-law is going through with her horrible neglectful cancer treatment. It is infuriating !
You are dead wrong that there are not huge waiting lists. Come to Quebec and see the reality. I know its not perfect in other provinces either.

        1. I am sick of these Morans discussing politics here. Either they don’t like themselves or hate every one else. Whoever complains about an elected democratic country. Should move out of US and live in Russia

    2. My father fucks prostitutes, mother is a professional hooker. I was born in a bordello and I like licking buttholes. This will help me take better pictures of my hooking mother and prostitute fucking father.

  1. These clueless talking heads write like they understand the iOS devices. Yes, the camera will be upgraded. BUT, the NEW photo features will require the most important thing about the next iPads. THEY REQUIRE THE 64 BIT A7 CHIP!!! The A7 chip is what makes the new photo features work.

The next generation iPads will be the only 64 bit tablets you will want to play games on and will never go back to a 32 bit tablet again. It starts with the A7 and M7 chips.

  2. … headline? More pixels has diddly-squat to do with “Aperture”.
More pixels means finer definition. A “film resolution” reference.
Greater aperture means more light being captured by the lens.
That said, both are considered “Good Things”.

  3. STEREO SPEAKERS Goddamn it !!
iPads don’t need better cameras before they need audio improvements!

I’ve been waiting for proper stereo speakers in landscape mode for 5 freaking iPad generations. Get with it Apple, its bloody ridiculous. Apple knows from the data it collects from us that most iPads in the world are used in landscape mode (statistical FACT not my opinion). It is absurd that the audio only comes out one side on such a high tech device.
Oh and move the dumb position of the headphone jack too. It gets in the way holding iPad in landscape mode.
