Bono: Apple’s leading the way, has raised over $65 million to fight AIDS through Product RED

Product RED is a brand licensed to partner companies such as Apple, Nike, and other multinational corporations.

The concept was founded in 2006 by U2 frontman and activist, Bono, together with Bobby Shriver of the ONE/DATA; the pair sought to engage the private sector for the purpose of raising awareness and funds to help eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a recipient of (RED) money.

Today Bono announced that “Apple is certainly leading the crew” and thanked the company for raising over $65 million to fight AIDS.

  1. It’s a wonderful thing, but AIDs transmission is mostly preventable if u avoid adultery, fornication, promiscuity and homosexual sodomy! Problem is that deviant sexuality is the new cool! People will not change their behavior for anything! World is too far gone, but I applaud Apple for trying.

    1. This is “Mac” Daily News, not “World” Daily News. I come here to learn about the latest in Apple news, not learn about what everyone else is talking about. Take this stuff over to HuffPost, please.

    2. “Deviant Sexuality” is nothing new in the world. Try reading a little history.

And the spread of AIDS in Africa was not due to “deviant sexuality”, but a wide variety of factors, including plain old boring heterosexual sex.

    3. Ha ha, I’ve been doing all those things for decades, still here, starting my 60’s, now married, loving my life and I owe it all to Apple…. or something. Go troll somewhere else. Or go have some same-sex sex and be cool for once! LOL BTW, been doing Apple for years, too. Dell and Blackberry schlubs were always telling me it would never amount to much. You hang out with those types?

    4. “Deviant” is a completely inappropriate term for discussing this medical condition – inaccurate and insulting to boot. AIDs comes from sex, and anyone who has sex can get it. Even good married wholesome Christian white person can and do get AIDs. You can never really know the full sexual history of your sexual partner, especially with all the social stigmas pressuring people to whitewash it. How can you blame a victims of an AIDs infections for now knowing what their partner has done before they met?

There’s too much ignorance on this planet, so please wise yourself up a notch, for the good of humanity.

      1. Ah, the whole ‘anyone can get AIDS’ myth. In the need to push gay acceptance, we’ll push out lies so that people who live safer and smarter are still under the exact same threat of STDs as others. Uhm, no.

If you choose to live in a monogamous, heterosexual relationship, ie marriage, you are far less likely to encounter STDs like AIDS than those who don’t. There is a reason why the CDC has research showing those who engage in sex with same sex partners and multiple partners you are at a much higher risk. There is a reason why gay men, who comprise ~ 3.5% of the population in the US make up over 69% of all HIV/AIDS cases in the country.

        1. If you’re in a monogamous relationship period, you’re less likely to get an STD. Too bad you have no clue about equality before the law, but generally your type have very poor cognitive abilities in general on any topic.

        2. 1) presumption of equality does not equate to a reality of it.
          2) the overwhelming majority of alternative relationships (incl. gay,) are non-monogamous in nature. Even the more honest gay academics and glbt literature will admit this.
          3) the stats stands. Mind you, you’d probably mindlessly blame it on ‘homophobia’ or something like that.

It’s much harder to BS people who do their own homework, and actually think through the propaganda, hmmmm?

        3. AIDS is spreading in Africa, because the men are sleeping with tons of prostitutes or they are bisexual. The women and children are paying the price.

In fact it is religious conservatives who have implemented the ‘ABC’ plan (abstinence, be monogamous, contraception) to great success. But Planned Parenthood hates this model because they think abstinence is a dirty word, and the love their abortions.

      1. When he was asked, “What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy?” iMaki replied, “I don’t know and I don’t care.” Turns out it was the very first thing he got right…

        😆

  2. @Apple’s investors: My sixth sense telling me there is good news for Apple @horizon.
Yet another leaked image of a China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) advertisement promoting the sale of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones suggests that the Cupertino, California-based company may be closer than ever to inking a deal with China’s largest mobile carrier. The latest leaked advertising poster comes courtesy of Chinese website MyDrivers.

    1. You are right. I lost all respect for him when he made a big deal about Negativland’s album “U2”, which OBVIOUSLY not a reference to the band U2. Such drama queens. Because of Bono’s nonsense, it is now very hard to find Negativland’s best album (in my opinion of course)

      1. Actually, disregard that. Negativland’s best album is their 2007 effort, “Our Favorite Things”, which has special guests “The 180 Gs”, a Doo Wop, Gospel, Soul ensemble from inner Detroit. But their 1991 album, “U2”, is still pretty good.

    2. Boris and iMaki: you’re fine examples of what I like to refer to as “assholes”.

Millions of African children are born with the disease because their own leaders tell their parents that condoms are bad. What “depravity, drug use and promiscuity” did they do to deserve that?

Our planet needs more people who have empathy and fewer with such sanctimonious cruelty.
