Apple’s iPhone launch event in Beijing on September 11th fuels speculation

“Between quicker China launches and expanding retail outlets, Apple Inc. has taken a number of steps over the past two years to focus on China, now the world’s largest smartphone market,” Paul Mozur reports for The Wall Street Journal. “The most recent of these steps is giving the country its own iPhone launch event.”

“On Sept. 10, when Apple executives in the U.S. will introduce the company’s newest line of iPhones, Apple will also host an event in the Chinese capital, Beijing,” Mozur reports. “The announcement, which was sent in recent days to Chinese journalists has fed speculation that the company will be making a major announcement for the China market, with most pointing to rumors of potential cooperation between Apple and China’s largest mobile carrier, China Mobile Ltd.”

Mozur reports, “Another possibility is that the new handsets will go on sale in China when they do in other major markets. In the past, Chinese consumers, some of Apple’s most rabid fans, have had to wait for months after the official launch for the phone to come out in the country, leading some to travel elsewhere to purchase phones and bring them back to the country to sell at a premium without the aftersales services one gets from a legitimate Apple purchase.”

    1. GRAMMAR NAZI ALERT: In your post above, you used “it’s” which is a contraction (abbreviation) of “it is.”

The correct version should be a possessive, e.g., “its” with no apostrophe.

This is a classic mistake in grammar, one that I cringe at daily when misused by journalists. Apparently, all the editors and proofreaders have been summarily rounded up and shot. Or something like that.

Boys and girls, for the sake of humanity and as a desperate, last-ditch attempt to salvage what’s left of the English language, please, I beg you, please know the difference and understand when to use “it’s” versus “its.”

      Thanks for reading this.

      1. Good point Brian and very appreciated.
Even those who know better make these mistakes daily.
I make many too. Most people are in a rush and do not bother to proof read. It is the time we all live in. Careless and rushed.

  1. as mentioned before, the iPhone 5c, most likely will appear in China first. The Asian market is where the interest is right now, to capitalize on Android there is important for Apple. iPhone 5 sells well yet a less expensive phone could sell better to a broader range of people over there. “C” for china or cost effective or colour… it doesn’t matter… its coming and there will be a special event for China on Sept 11th.

Lets all hope the 5c has the same processor as the iPhone 5s.

Better yet, lets see Apple provide the A7 in all its offerings as a real choice to customers, optional A6 for savings.
Apple TV with A7 latest processor.
iPad and iPad mini with the A7, too.

Options to us should be PROCESSORS and MEMORY.

    Apple TV in pink… doh.
