“iTunes purchasing in the current Apple TV software is limited to movie and television shows, but the latest beta suggests music buying will be an added feature when Apple releases the next version later this year,” AppleInsider reports.
“The Music app now directs to an interface much like the iTunes Store as seen on OS X, complete with scrollable panes and category menus,” AppleInsider reports. “Previously, selecting Music would open a user’s iTunes library.”
AppleInsider reports, “With the beta, users can preview songs, browse artists, and make single track or album purchases. Much of the functionality from the OS X version of the store is brought over to the big screen…”

cool.
Next step… Apps!!
The Apple TV doesn’t have the memory for apps. It will be mirroring and screen extensions which are partially done today. I think the game is Chopper which you use an iPhone as the controller to fly a helicopter which is playing on a Mac or iPad. Response is great but the lack of physical buttons is a drawback. I can see a physical controller controlling an iPhone or iPad game that is displayed on a TV through an Apple TV. Apple will get more sales from Apple TV, the physical controller and you will still be able to play your game when not in front of a TV.

… yet.
Forget the music, let us be able to run Apps on AppleTV!
I BET it CAN be DONE!
Apps FTW!
Probably so AppleTV can support iRadio when it becomes available. That’d be a glaring omission if it wasn’t supported there, and there’s no way either Apple or the labels would be in favor of iRadio service without the ties to purchasing.
Nup. Apple TV will always be a failure until they bring back true streaming of photograph libraries. It was easily the best feature of ATV1 and why they crippled it in subsequent ATV’s is a mystery. The only reason we pissed off users can figure is that Apple can’t monetise it so won’t fix it. There is no technical reason they can’t do it.
Gallery was nice on ATV also.
I don’t quite understand what you mean by “true streaming.” Your entire iPhoto library is still available on AppleTV through “computers/photos”
No it’s not. A small subset of perhaps 200 – 300 photos is cycled round and round endlessly. The original ATV1 randomly selected photos from one’s ENTIRE library so that it was very rare to see a photo repeated. There is no technical reason it cannot be done on the current ATV’s. It’s either Apple being bloody minded and/or they can’t make money out of it so they don’t give a f@%&* about the end user. And yes, many formal requests have been made to Apple to fix it.
I have an original tv and I have tv2 and tv3 and you can access the ENTIRE library on all three of them.
wait, do you mean as a screensaver?
