“My first impression on seeing iOS 7 on my iPhone was: What is this, a My Little Pony theme?” Mike Elgan writes for Cult of Mac. “But after scrutinizing, analyzing, deconstructing and living with the new version, I’m ready to declare iOS 7 an unambiguous masterpiece, a stroke of genius, really.”
“The old interface had a lot of arbitrariness, and the new one has very little,” Elgan writes. “In addition to being aesthetically compatible, the new OS contrasts colorwise. The hardware is: mimimum color (black or white and metal all over). The software is: maximum color. The overall effect of this contrast is striking and appealing.”
Elgan writes, “Almost every user interaction with iOS 7 triggers an instant and smooth reaction by the interface, and a high-performance one that makes sense rather than being a cheap gimmick… Apple has taken the best aspect of the iOS interface — the reactive physics — and has taken it to a whole new thrilling level… the overall design is a masterpiece of style, function and market differentiation. It’s a great thing for Apple, and a great thing for users. The future for Apple’s mobile interface looks very bright indeed.”

It just kills me how many idiots complain about an OS before they’ve ever used it. Admit it. When you were a kid, you lusted after that big box of crayons with all 64 colors. Nobody knows what it looks like in the bright sun. All this ranting about Apple screwing up iOS is just drivel. It’s not even a product yet. I would imagine that Apple has put a huge effort into this and the reasons for the design choices will be come evident when you actually start using the OS. OS has always been a strong point at Apple, and IMO, there will be a lot to like about this OS.
Add bright colours. Reverse the delete function and copy Android! This is a masterpiece indeed! Thanks Google!
Ps Apple cut back on the crayola! And also cut back on the bright colours! WoW… the iPhone is now for children!
I knew something like this would happen. I’m sticking to iOS6 when this comes out. Fire Tim Cook, I say!
All this negativity sounds just as ridiculous as all the ranting and poking at Apple that took place when it announced the original iPad. Everyone thought it was a ridiculous device and would be the “biggest f#%kip” in the history of Apple. And all the pissing and moaning about color. What do you want? Grayscale? That was OS 9. This is a pathetic thread.
Hate to say it, but nothing too impressive in iOS7. I think BB10 has more innovation with their hub and best of all the seamless integration of work and personal stuff. I’m still an iphone fan, but the gap is quickly shrinking.
SMH at you guys complaining about iOS7’s new design. You guys aren’t true Apple fans. I think you are just Fragmandroid/Windoze Phoney losers who are jealous of the iPhone.
Can U please just post the phone number of your drug dealer?
You guys know you’re all being trolled, right? And trolled by pros that are leading off with very specific talking points usually used by social engineering marketers.
Samsung/Google must be getting worried that iOS 7, when finished and polished, is going to wipe the floor with them, especially after the mediocre sales of their flagship product.
…mediocre sales of their flagship product if they’re coming here to troll/post.
(Left that last part out by mistake)
Haha. Samsung and Google probably have a web scanning algorithm that looks for “Apple” and a keyword like “masterpiece”. It then mass emails their trolls with links to the articles. Probably Microsoft too, but they’d have to use Bing, and it would return 5 times as much malware.
No John, the iOS 7 interface looks hideous. Why? Because I am not a ten year old girl.
That said, I’m not a fan of windows or android interfaces, especially windows 8. Haven’t seen blackberry’s latest interface but I bet it was designed for professionals unlike iOS7 which looks to have been designed for pre-teenage girls.
iOS 7 is ugly. Period.
I predict that the look of iOS7 will hurt iPhone sales and that this issue will come up in the future and Apple will change the interface to something aimed at adults/professional people. Mark these words…
Well said.
Agree with your comments.
Offer choice, Apple.
Everyone wins.
Clever spoof of Samsung based on the “Designed by Apple” ad:
Nice to read we both know it without having to say it.
Now, getting back to the article if iOS 7 is a masterpiece of design, then Windows and Android should win the award.
Apple followed this go round, sorry.
Certainly you are playful with words. When they mean something I will let you know.
I think so.
I watched the keynote today and was very impressed. I have a hard time understand people that react “wtf” when they see it. Ok, this guy came around but his first reaction was still strange. I think it is really good. It actually has this Aero Vista/Win7 style over it. It is really nice looking. It is clear… It has focus. It just feels nice and clear when you read the text. The info you need presented in an elegant way. Not a dot too much. Thank you!
Masterpiece clone of android and wp8
Now that is has been released, correcto mundo.
Did they get the same person who created the new gmail compose to work on the iOS 7? There might be some nice things under the hood, but the GUI blows dog.
My text messages now look terrible.
My keyboard = terrible.
OMFG my alarm! did you see the alarm? OMFG terrible.
The only good thing.. was the closing of multiple apps by swiping up. THATS IT.
EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE GUI IS FAIL. FIRE THAT GUY, FIRE HIM RIGHT NOW. FIre anyone who was excited to roll out this garbage UI after development. Save the apple stock from falling.
Its stuff like this that makes you want to throw your iphone in some iStore geeks face and go buy a Samsung S4.
Just installed iOS 7 on my old phone… It’s full of crap. Apple will die soon and iphone will be a thing of past. Customers finally waking up and leaving apple and it’s dictatorial ecosystem.
Apple will die soon? How many times have we heard that one? The new iPhones are flying off the shelves faster than Apple can deliver them. 700 million iOS user must have made a bad choice since 2007 when the iphone first appeared.
