Coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook charity auction hit by credit card fraud

“The charity auction for a coffee date with Apple CEO Tim Cook is back on after the highest bid was discovered to have been made with a stolen credit card,” Susanna Kim reports for ABC News.

“The date with Tim Cook, along with 137 other experiences, benefit the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights,” Kim reports. “The auction closes on May 14 but the highest bid was already $605,000 as of last week. The highest bid dropped to $600,000 on Monday after it was discovered that the previous top contender had bid with a stolen credit card, as first reported by Fortune.

Kim reports, “The second highest-priced item is a tour of SpaceX Center in Los Angeles with founder Elon Musk [currently] at $7,500.”

  1. Is Tim going to speak at this thing? If so, I’m shorting AAPL. For the rest of you, get your “everything is going to be okay” posts ready. Tim Cook must go!

  2. I have a brokerage account that supplies me with a “credit” card. It is a mastercard and looks like any other. I can charge up to my entire account balance. It is not really a credit card but a debit card. I tried to buy a new Lexus, i tried to buy a condo in Palm Springs with it. At Lexus they let me charge $10k on it, the condo zilch. Many people have that type credit card, some could buy a yacht if the seller would accept it.

  3. The real question after paying $600k is “who’s picking up the tab? Tim or the person that won the auction?”

It would suck if after they ordered their coffee that the winner had to also pick up the tab! 🙂

I can see it now, Tim having that “I think I forgot my wallet” look on him while waiting for the winner to pick up the tab.
