From the “a picture is worth a thousand words” file, Cult of Mac offers up a doozy.
The photograph from the announcement of the new pope Benedict XVI back in 2005 above a photo from the announcement of Pope Francis I yesterday.
Cult of Mac’s John Brownlee writes, “Says everything that needs to be said about how Apple has changed the world, don’t you think?”
See the photos here.
MacDailyNews Take: Yup.
Everyone here has the sense that right now is one of those moments when we are influencing the future. — Steve Jobs
Add touch to that iMac Apple then hang it on the wall. You would then own the best Windows 8 computer on the market.
Then tweak OSX to work with touch, add some color to that drab GUI and u will have something.
It has a glass panel add the capacitive layer, it’s not that hard.
Owe and it won’t cut into that 50% profit margin you so enjoy.
I hate this, we have all of this tech and no one has put it all together to make a outstanding device at a good price $$$.
All because of some design team thinks our arms are going to fall off using a touch screen thats not flat, come on!!!!!!!!!!
So get busy and add the touch panel on the iMac!!!!!!!
Hear me Tim, lets get with it!!!!!!!!
Big Mike is a Big Dick
U sure it is a big one?
You sir, are an idiot, and clearly not aware of the effects of gravity.
Tell you what, hold your arms out parallel to the floor for 5 minutes, and then tell me if your’d like to spend hours each day interacting with your computer that way.
facepalm
It would work if the screen itself is about 10-20 degrees off horizontal. The screen cannot remain upright for long-term working environment with touch screen technology.
just for the records… what is the iMac touchscreen going to solve? Why do you need?
He needs a lobotomy…
In a wonderful twist on irony, the product you seek is available today:

I’d hate a touchscreen Mac. Editing photos on a screen covered with greasy finger marks would be a nightmare.
=:~)
Yeah, right. Sounds like BIG Mike has never stood with his arms outstretched for an extended period of time. Your freakin’ arms would feel like they’re about to fall off after ten minutes of using your Winderz 8 computer, Mikey. Maybe 20 minutes if you’re in really good shape but even then, why the fuck would you WANT to do that to yourself? Oh yeah, I forgot. You use Winderz so you think computing is supposed to be painful! Hah!
I’m sure there is a Windows 8 PC out there that meets your needs. Actually, I’m sure there already WAS such a PC before Windows 8, and no one bought it.
If it is “not that hard” get to it already, mod yours and post a video showing the rest of the world how to do it. After all, IT”S EASY right?
Or…
STFU and stop blasting ever article with this same tired drivel.
Apple is dipping…..
mmmmmmmm…is it in cinnamon sauce?
I say, pretend your screen has a touch panel, play for an hour, then come back and tell us how you feel.
To be fair, that 2005 pic appears to be on the boulevard TO St. Peters Square, while the 2013 pic is IN St. Peters Square. Further, obviously the 2013 pic is being taken when something is happening, while the 2005 pic is of people waiting for something to happen.
Semantics, Ken… the point illustrated is perfectly valid.
Yup. It’s amazing what has happened in the last eight years. Certainly driven by the iPhone.
I seem to remember that Steve Jobs once talked about how he was walking through New York City and saw person after person wearing white earbuds. He said something about knowing then that the iPod was going to be big.
It’s good to be in top.
The more interesting question is, what will that picture look like when the NEXT Pope is announced…?
Maybe there won’t be any people in the picture, because everyone will be “there” via virtual telepresence.
…Or gone doing anything else…
Or staring at it with their Google glasses set to Record.
Sorry, guys, couldn’t resist that one … Let’s try again. Ahem. Holding up their left arms to capture the moment on their iWatches!
HP had a touch screen computer in 1983…the HP 150. Not a big seller, but interesting nonetheless.
Obviously the electronic evolution don’t brake people free from religions… Oh! Where has that poor “Think different” got lost?
Especially that first word.
“different” eventually becomes the status-quo and before you know it, you’ve been staring at the same iOS interface and icons for 7 years……….with an extra row, of course–NOW THAT’S INNOVATION BABY!!!!!
I think it could only be a matter of time until apple offer touch sensitive screens. With a clever design on the iMac bevel you could have the screen so it could be adjusted to lie down to a 30 degree angle from your desk for when you want/need touch interaction. Lets face it, if anyone is gonna make this work it will be Apple.
As a professional retoucher though I think I’ll stick with my mouse. I’m sure I saw a patent by Apple referring to something like what I’ve just described…
Truly impressive. Ironic as hell (ha ha), because being in this crowd likely indicates some major “living in the past ” issues. But impressive none the less.
