Analysts’ estimates for Apple’s first weekend of iPad mini Wi-Fi-only sales “range from 800,000 to 3 million,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.
“Topeka Capital’s Brian White: 800,000 to 1 million in first weekend,” P.E.D. reports. “BTIG’s Walter Piecyk: Apple must sell 3 million in first weekend to demonstrate to Wall Street that there is adequate demand and that management can ramp up to meet it.”

MacDailyNews Take: Nothing like setting unreasonable expectations there, Walt. Short much?
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Fred Mertz” for the heads up.]
At my local Apple Store (Portland, Oregon) yesterday, they were all sold out by noon. I asked the Apple Store representative if they received an initial amount similar to the iPhone 5 and he said no it was much less, so I think the supply constraints are real.
I’d believe that.
Was at Walmart and bestbuy last night, Walmart sales guy… They sold 1 all day. Their case was full of them. Sold iPad full size though.
I’ve seen the pictures of the lines, the mini will sell decent, but it’s not nearly the same as a full size iPad.
2 things though I must point out.
A: it’s wifi only for sale ATM.
B: anecdotal, many people probably just preordered like usual.
None to be found here either…http://mobile.walmart.com/m/phoenix;jsessionid=E77F5DBC6DBBD3D2E1714E786A6C1E7C#find-in-store/22081453/45.840511322021484/-119.28946685791016
Total bs. Just put in my zip, also out of stock… Yet I saw them in the case.
Was at least 7 in stock at 10pm last night.
Minis will sell, just not as much as the full iPad.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo it’s not true! There is no iPad mini! Apple will not make the iPad mini! Because Derek Currie said so! It’s all a big lie!
Indeed there is no iPod mini.
In my hometown The Hague they all disappeared completely from all the shops…..
Apple is to cool to sell anything to the EU.
How many…? That’s easy. Apple will sell however many they produced for the pre-orders and first weekend store sales.
The new iPod touch also seems to be selling well, based on what the local Apple Store had left in stock (not much – only the more expensive config in a few colors). They are also very cool – Apple should called it “iPad nano.”
Got my mini via UPS yesterday, and I just can’t put the thing down. My heavy-as-a-rock retina iPad sits there all alone devoid of attention. At a soirée tonight everybody wanted to handle the mini, not so the retina iPad.
This thing is gonna sell by the boatloads once Apple gets production cranking. I think it is going to be a mini Apple Christmas!
Tell us again why Apple needs to demonstrate *anything* to Wall Street.
