“Earlier this year, it was revealed that French designer Philippe Starck was working with Dutch shipbuilder Feadship on a new yacht for the family of Steve Jobs,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors. “The yacht had been mentioned in Walter Isaacson’s biography of Jobs as a project he had been working on since 2009, but the ship was not completed before his death last year.”
“Dutch site One More Thing now reports [Google translation] that the ship, christened “Venus”, has officially launched, with Jobs’ widow Laurene Powell Jobs and their three children participating in the event,” Slivka reports. “The aluminum-hulled ship is said to be 70-80 meters in length and features seven 27-inch iMacs lined up in the wheelhouse to help run the controls.”

Philippe Starck: Oui, that ‘revolutionary Apple product’ is actually Steve Jobs’ family’s yacht – April 17, 2012
It looks like Jonathan Ives gave some assistance in the design.
No way would Jonathan Ives design such an ugly yacht. Perhaps the interior is beautiful but the superstructure itself is horrendous. Most of the superyacht captains in the industry are of the same opinion. Looks like some semi modern Dutch barge. Check out the other Feadship Designs and you will see what I am referring to. The yacht Tango is one of them.
No disrespect whatsoever to the Jobs family.
There is the American classical composer Charles Ives. There is the British industrial designer (design chief at Apple) Jonathan Ive. There is no Jonathan Ives.
To me, the yacht has a very Jobsian minimalistic look. As for the ‘Tango’ of Feadship, it looks like something designed for a Russian tycoon. I can’t imagine Steve would want to be caught dead in such a thing. But that is just my personal opinion…
“There is no Jonathan Ives.” Actually there is – several in fact.

🙂
I’m not keen on the rectangular glass command house, it looks too much like a house boat, but I do like the space needle-like hull.
If the superstructure had echoed the hull design in some way, I think it would have flowed much nicer.
It looks like a large version of the kind of prize you get from a cereal box. This is really surprising how ugly it is.
It looks like a California Modern house floating on the water.
And that square bow looks like it came off the Titanic.
I’m glad I wasn’t the first to say it .. it has got to be the ugliest
craft ever put to water…
I truly am shocked at how appalling this is, its like someone has taken the Jonny Ive minimalist look and given it to Gucci to bling up a bit and has gone completely over the top… and then for good measure gone over the top once again. Looks like a floating summerhouse after the flood hit. Thank God the original news that Starck was designing an Apple product proved foundless becasue I remember saying back then something like this studio specialises in taking minimalist to extremes and then adding pointless additions to shock. How true were those words.
It was designed by Phillipe Starck (www.starck.com), and Steve Jobs (as the article states)
No, it doesn’t…. it looks like he should’ve though.
You are with US Steve. We will NEVER stand still. Thank You.
we will be forever loving jahbs
Love the row of Apple displays on the bridge.
I thought those were washing machines lol.
Poor Steve, RIP your dream carries on!
I can’t resist:
Steve’s yacht can’t actually go anywhere because Steve’s boat doesn’t believe in extra ports.
heh.
Fair winds and a following sea…
I heard it was armed for thermonuclear war….
I hope they took out insurance for bad taste…
Are those the new 27″ iMacs that are supposed to ship in December?
I am not sure of the sea-keeping abilities of that hull shape. Its as if Frank Lloyd Wright made a yacht in the Prairie style.
It’s NOT a yacht. Yachts have sails. This is just another “mine’s bigger than yours”, ostentatious, stink boat. Houda thunk Steve was into those?
You betcha, buster. ‘Eos’, ‘Maltese Falcon’, those are yachts.
All you supplicants can look em up online so you don’t remain
clueless. I can’t help you with tasteless, though.
Looks like shit to me. No classical lines at all.
So, tell us all about your yacht BLN. Or is it upside down, along with the rubber duck in your mother’s bathtub?
I agree.
hope the inside isn’t as devoid of character as the outside.
To be fair, SJ’s yacht does look a bit edgy – sharp, straight prow and beveled stern with lots of flat surfaces. It isn’t something that I would necessarily have chosen (if I even had the money to commission a yacht). I didn’t see any details on the design, but I would have expected more indications of a “green” aspect to the design.
In the end, I like it, if only because it is one last view into the psyche of the person that was Steve Jobs.
Sail on Steve!
Very ugly boat, no apple worthy design. Looks like Titanic 2.0 to me…..could be snappy tough
So it was Christened as “The Venus”.
Venus is the Roman goddess whose functions encompassed love, beauty, sex, fertility, prosperity and victory. Sounds like Steve’s philosophy of creating beautiful products – Macs, iPods, iPhones, iPads, OS X.
Nicely done Steve. Maybe while you are at that “Mid-Level Angel”, your Spirit can enjoy a spin!

You read Isaacson’s bio but assume Steve Jobs is someplace
where he’s been fitted angel’s wings?
iHell
It’s beautiful. Revolutionary. We have forgotten already what it was like to be shown things that never existed before.
We miss you Steve.
Sort of reminds me of the early dreadnoughts. Bigger than my boat. It’s different. Can’t say that I care for it. But I’d like to see different views. Who knows, maybe it would grow on you? I’ll bet that some very high-grade saltwater stainless! I’m going to guess that dents will show up on that hull. Oh well, it’s not my money. Different strokes for different folks. If that’s what he wanted then that’s what he should have. It was his money. Too bad he didn’t get to see it completed.
Are you all blind? If nothing else it should mark a severely ironic footnote to history that a person credited with so much good taste could produce something as horrific as this. I was hoping it was a prank, like they would say “whoops, sorry; this is Steve Ballmer’s yacht, sorry sorry.. .. here’s Steve Jobs’ yacht.” and they fish out something like we would’ve expected?
Actually, from what I understand Jobs himself would never put pen to paper re design, but that he just had a talent for picking out the most beautiful of other people’s designs and putting the manufacturing muscle of Apple behind those designs. Jonathan Ive, for instance?
As art, it’s OK I guess. Nautically, it doesn’t look very seaworthy. I agree with the barge-look comments. Imagine a storm in mid-ocean with a huge wave plowing into the bow. That superstructure looks like it would lift right off the ship in a hurricane or other severe storm at sea. It might be OK for tooling around the Mediterranean if it stayed close to the coast, but I’d be very wary of cruising across the ocean except in calm, stable seas.
I would like to sea a tour of the interior, though. I bet it’s spectacular.
Like everything else you worked on Steve, as always a true work of Art, Style, Design,Technology & Engineering. RIP Steve ….
I agree with “Weekend” and “macaholic” in that it does resemble a dreadnought that could have been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. That said, it definitely has Steve’s styling cues all over it. Personally I love it, and I find it humorous how some of these posters seem to take it as an affront to themselves. What a narrow minded viewpoint for professed fans of Apple and Steve Jobs.
why the hell did they get starck to design it, he has produced the most horrible boats ever, an in house design would have been much better.
Seems like a logical and artistic extension of this concept, realized with just over twice the waterline length and at least 15x the budget: http://setsail.com/fpb-115/
Actually those macs look like a row of laundry machines.
That video and music made me cry.
To think that Steve will never ever go on it.
It’s his yacht that will never sail. If anything is a tribute to Steve then it’s that yacht.
And that music – don’t know what it is and who wrote it, but that music says so much.
Philippe Starck is a terrible designer. I guess, Jony did not have to design it.
