One year ago today, Steve Jobs passed away.
The home page of Apple.com is completely blank except for a 1 minute and 45 second movie entitled “Remembering Steve”.
AFter the movie concludes, the page transitions to:
A message from Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.
Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.
One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.
Tim
Steve Jobs gave the address at Stanford University’s 114th Commencement on June 12, 2005. We’d like to share it with you:
MacDailyNews Take: Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
We miss you, Steve!

I went to all things D and watched him at his best one more time.
It made me feel better.
Wonder… is that Yo Yo Ma playing Cello as the background music in the video tribute? Steve loved his music
Yes, Yo Yo Ma playing Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G major (BWV 1007) according to another commentator on AI.
Steve jobs you changed computing for the better but you were a huge asshole and should of taken better responsibility for those around you.
you make judgements from the few stories you read about him when he was young or the issues he had with some of his staff but there were also other stories about how good he was with Lauren and how well he took care of his later children: taking them to neighbourhood pool parties, crying at their graduation. Lauren and those kids seem to be fine with him. Did he have 5 or 6 wives and sets of children like some other celebs that people admire? And some of his friends like Cook and Schiller stuck with him for years (he asked the board to give Cook multimillion bonus for his work as acting CEO when he was sick) so how was “taken better of those around him” ? Seems like if you perform he was fine with you.
Steve was abandoned by his dad and put into foster care, later when he found out he had a sister he reached out to her.
Having worked 15 years in the social services with foster kids many of whom have vast emotional problems it’s amazing that Steve achieved so much in life.
In the end we outsiders only reading stories will never know the real steve, it is for those who knew him personally to judge.
There is a candle burning on my table. There is another light that never goes out…
To remember Steve is to be grateful that he got his second chance at Apple, and to be inspired about all the good things it brought to hundreds of millions of us around the world, no matter the age, gender or the amount of tech savviness a person possesses. That’s a pretty hefty and meaningful dent to make in the universe.
Steve was special <3

Thank you Steve.
His story is so unbelievable. Guy starts company in garage. He gets fired from same company he founded. He then comes back ten years later to lead same company on trajectory towards Mars and beyond. It is special. Like Elvis, Beatles, Moon walks, Cubs winning World Series. Etc . For the tech set, jobs is all those together and more. He inspired so many. Thanks Steve!!!
I wish your family the best.
For those who haven’t seen it yet- there is a long interview with Steve for the Smithsonian archive… It’s from the mid 90’s and the topics vary widely from education reform, to Pixar and NeXT, to Apple’s troubles. At one point they asked him if Apple could be saved. He grimaced… Looked thoughtful, then replied something like- “For Apple to be saved… Somebody is gonna have to pull a rabbit out of a hat”. So awesome. I wish they used that sound bite.
Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. Magic XD
So that’s where the “magical” meme originated—with Steve himself, before he returned to Apple.
Shame on Apple UK. Business as usual.
Apple UK sorted and showing the tribute.
Steve Jobs = iGenius.
He thunk different.
Steve was one of the reasons I switched to Apple. I believed in his vision which outshone the decrepitude I saw around me infecting Microsoft & Windows & all the thousands of copycat Android phones out there.
He had a way of making the complicated simple, of blowing away the lies, obfuscation and double talk of the other computer manufacturers.
We are living in the vision of the future that you saw. You left a dent in the universe where I inhabit.
The video doesn’t play for me, though I’m at work and using a PC with Firefox. Any ideas?
Change your user agent string to report u are on an ipad – worked for me
Thanks!
Steve had his genome sequenced because of his cancer. We do not understand how to use that information today to cure cancer. But one day we will.
But more importantly, his DNA is somewhere a 3-billion letter digital file. If his family allows, his doppelgänger will rise one day.
I just hope Apple’s DNA is just as well preserved till then.
Steve, when you rise again, I hope you do more than what the earlier Steve did and bring joy to our lives again.
Conceptually, gene therapy would allow for the introduction of working, healthy genes to be introduced into people with defective genes that lead to cancer. It would not replace their defective genes but theoretically could provide the functionality the defective genes do not.
But of course, it’s not that simple. Nature’s complexity and evolution is well beyond our current human comprehension. Perfection is only a goal.
Dude. U fucking didn’t approve my awesome post. I’m pissed. It was nothing negative. Wtf. Like… Dude…
You’re gonna lost traffic if u keep fucking over te regs. Sheeit
My Lordthree,
By the quality of your post here I feel equally outraged we are never to read in awe the tremendously erudite and incisive thoughts erupting from your keen mind as a beacon of light to shine down on us all. Alas a loss to the ages… 🙁
Dear Apple, I must admit, I feel ashamed of what is going on at Foxconn, And I withdrawed my IPhone 5 order today…
When you use an iPhone, knowing the circumstances in Chinas factories, you are guilty of the industrial slavery that is accepted by the biggest company of this planet.
And this slavery is the reason why Apple became the biggest company. We never wanted to be a part of this misery!
IF WE ALL JUST STOP BUYING NEW IPHONES, APPLE HAS TO THINK OVER !
Shame on you Tim, for making it a rotten Apple…
The magic is gone, the mass hysteria results in too much money that makes Tim and the board blind for Steves ideas.
It was Big Steve’s idea to move all the manufacturing to Foxconn et al… the rest of the board went to some pains trying to shush him whenever he started cackling about ‘enslaving all those (Chinese people) to build these bunco gizmos’.
I guess you could buy an Android device, Google upholds their
high standards by having them built by elves.
All of you are taking this hero worship stuff way too far.
Probably some canny show biz impresario is gonna
get wise and start doing Jobs impersonator shows
in Vegas and Atlantic City., rope all of you in.
Instead of singing and dancing the show will be ‘Jobs’
recreating past igizmo product announcements….
“Applemania”… “Stevemalion”… “Phantom of the Yerba Buena Center” “Les MisterApples” (okay, that last one is kind of stupid…)
You will all be there camped out in line to buy tickets….
Thank you Steve.
Has anybody noticed what looks like an iPad on the lecture stand in front of Steve when he is introducing the iPhone. It appears at :50 on the tribute.. The iPad is visible on the lecture stand. You can hear Steve order 4,000 lattes to go and in the background is the screen with Al Gore and Michele Hill’s names.
