Rush Limbaugh: Even the Apple fans are depressed about the new iPhone

Mac, iPhone, and iPad user Rush Limbaugh today discussed Apple Inc., Tim Cook, and the next-gen iPhone on his radio program that, since its inception on August 1, 1988, is the highest-rated talk radio show in the United States.

The 3-hour Rush Limbaugh Show airs daily on a network of approximately 590 AM and FM affiliate stations. The program is also broadcast worldwide on the U.S. Armed Forces Radio Network. A November 2008 poll by Zogby International found that Rush Limbaugh was the most trusted news personality in the nation.

From the live transcript:

I’m not kidding. I got people e-mailing me, being depressed about the new iPhone. I kid you not. Well, I’ll tell you why. It’s because apparently everything is known about what it’s gonna be, and that’s like taking Santa Claus out of Christmas for people. Apple’s big announcement is on Wednesday, and everybody thinks they know what the phone’s gonna be. It’s gonna be a four-inch screen. It’s gonna have LTE, 4G LTE in it, it’s gonna have whatever, people know it. It’s not a new design. It looks exactly like the current phone, a little thinner. It looks just like the current phone, just a half-inch longer. But no wider. It’s gonna have a bigger screen but nothing on that screen is gonna be bigger. There’s just gonna be more space on the screen and the Apple fanboys are all depressed…

It’s amazing to track this. You know, I’m a Mac fanboy myself. So I track this stuff… It’s amazing to look at the various things people are interested in, and you can find depression everywhere, disappointment. And Apple hadn’t even said anything yet. But everybody’s convinced they know what it’s gonna be, and it’s like Santa Claus. One guy even said that Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, is so boring they better get a celebrity out there to conduct the big show on Wednesday or nobody’s gonna watch it.

  1. Not a fan of his show or him, but frankly if we’re talking about an elongated screen, a bit thinner, 4G LTE, smaller dock connector, larger battery, and faster processor, that’s HUGE. Forget about the fact that it’s not “wider”. That’s ridiculous. What’s more, this is just the stuff we KNOW. I can’t believe ALL the secrets of the new iPhone have been uncovered.

Why anyone would not be excited about some of this new stuff is beyond me. Fanboys and consumers will be lining up for it as soon as it hits the market, they’re going to sell zillions of them – so what difference does his comments make? Any fanboy who is truly unhappy with the iPhone 5 is NOT a “fanboy”. Period.

  2. Got a question about that creepy picture MDN uses whenever it posts Rush LIMPaugh click bait.

Is that Rush coming out of the closet to announce he is a Log Cabin Republican?

Rush has had more beards than a gallery of Renaissance Portraits.

  3. I’m hoping the new iPhone is a horrible as everyone is predicting it to be. Then, it will sell in astounding numbers, proving once again that pundit and rumor whores = idiots with small brains. I hope that the iPhone has every feature that Apple (the design and manufacturer) wanted to be in there, and not 1 item more.

  4. None of you or the rest of the whiners have figured it out yet. It’s not about the physical device – which, except for the retina display – has not changed from day one. The apps are what make the iPhone and iPad so amazing. The thought, creativity, utility, functionality, entertainment, programming, awesomeness is all from the Apps and the iOS interface. Once you start moving your finger on the screen, there is no difference between an original iPhone and a new one – the user experience is protected, guarded, and enhanced by the apps and iOS – the device may provide access to them a bit faster or brighter than the last one, but that’s it… I don’t care about the device, and neither do most folks. That’s where the Android and WindowsPhone folks have gotten lost. They keep trying to make wiz bang devices and they keep failing. Their platforms and apps are fractured, and the user interface is inconsistent, wonky, and hard to use. Because Apple made everyone play by their rules, the user experience of the Apps is amazing with an iOS device.

  5. “A November 2008 poll by Zogby International found that Rush Limbaugh was the most trusted news personality in the nation.”

No wonder this nation is in such sad shape. It explains why 37% of ohio’ans think romney had more to do with or were unsure of who had more to do with the killing of Osama than Obama.

  6. Why is this site promoting that racist, disgusting, pig feces and his show? Not only do you give credence to his name and comments, each time he’s mentioned it reads like a paid ad. maybe it is. Maybe he’s somebody’s uncle, or blackmailer.

In any case, I had to stop reading and will now leave the site to get this taste out of my mouth. Seriously, he’s disgusting.

  7. I’ve watched every single keynote and product introduction Steve ever made. Also followed the reaction. Almost all the time the complaining was constant, which always made me laugh because Steve was so incredibly awesome to watch and listen to. Nevertheless the “letdown” was palpable and whiners let loose. And immediately ppl started using the new next great thing and sure enough the appreciation and enjoyment would start building. It was a pattern and even Steve would get bummed that ppl were so rabidly expectant and then stupid about how significant the new changes actually are, until of course they started using The New Thing. So yes there’s a bizarre depression among the fantasizing instant gratification crowd until learning curve and use accomplished, after the keynote.

    1. Steve was an evangelist who was always bitterly disappointed that other mortals didn’t, at first, understand. Unlike a religious messiah, however, he expected others to eventually accede to his physical and practical beliefs—which were based on a universal human usability formula—and in the end, people did so, as adduced by sales figures.

  8. Once again, like clockwork, everybody’s expectations are high and unreasonable about what Apple’s new product will be — setting yourself up for another disappointment (like they did a year ago when iPhone 5 was supposed to come out, but it ended up just being iPhone 4S). Remember folks, just because something perhaps should have a bigger screen, doesn’t mean that’s what will happen. And another thing, I feel that Tim Cook is getting a bad wrap being compared to SJ (and that’s exactly what people are doing). Tim’s presentation delivery style may be different, but it’s too bad some of you find it boring. I focus on the words he says and not so much on how he delivers his words. He has big shoes to fill, and it doesn’t help crapping on him. A lot of people still don’t understand how Apple works or thinks.

Rush is wrong about so many things. Why would anyone care what he thinks about the next iPhone??

It surprises me, Bill. “Why would anyone” even listen to the most Popular, indluential, and Powerful Radio Personality of all time?
You figure it out, Bill. It’s probably for the same reason that you’re here.
Either you like him, or you hate him.
    I like him.

    1. So was Walter Winchell, in his day. Now, of course, no one reads his writing, listens to his old broadcasts, or gives a damn about him. Enjoy your “time in the sun”, while the rest of us pursue more worthy pursuits.

  10. Have been a Mac Fan for many years, however I am getting so bored with the way Apple drip feed their technology.

I have the iphone 3, 3G, 4 and the 4s and to be honest having played with the Samsung S3 it leaves the iPhone for dead.

Also pissing me off is the amount of law suits Apple is hitting everyone with, very much a throw back to the mighty Microsoft days.

It’s just another way to restrict technology and keep all the Apple addicts hanging on…

    1. In that case, Andy—or is it Android—thank God for Samsung. I am sorry you wasted valuable years of your life suffering with Apple’s degenerating products. Clearly they deserve to die, except, oh, OK, let them live so we have SOMEONE TO COPY otherwise our smartphones will be indistinguishable from our toaster ovens.

  11. I’m starting to get sick of people whining. The people who say they are depressed are not Apple Fans. They are bored posers who need some kind of crutch to differentiate themselves from others and to feel good about themselves. If Apple’s lack of providing something “new and really different” was affecting the work or play of the said users, then they might have a case for whining about depression. Shit like this makes me long for the days when “Apple Fans” we’re the few and proud!

    1. Whiners are losers. What does it say about people who stake their hopes and dreams on a company that merely sells consumer electronics? Only that in this day and age, leadershhip, ethics, and morals have been subsumed by consumerism.

Wait—that was supposed to be in the 1950s—what happened?

  12. I agree that it is just a phone. The best phone… but nonetheless, just a phone. That said… I too am a little let down about knowing what I know about the phone. I also think they ought to get someone else to do the unveiling… Scott Forstall, maybe… that guy has crazy wicked eyes… they freak me out…

  13. I’m not going to get into the pros and cons of Rush.

However if the quote I got people e-mailing me, being depressed about the new iPhone. is actually true, I really think that people should a) develop a sense of perspective – over 3000 people lost their lives on this day in 2001 as a result of a terrorist attack and another 5000 American service personnel went on to be killed in the resulting military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, with an additional 42,000 wounded.

With all of that, if people are ‘depressed’ because their little surprise has been ruined.

And if it is true, what’s the point of e-mailing Rush?? Is he some sort of psychic nutritionist that can heal their pain? No, he’s a fucking talk show host.

Seriously, the society we live in is so warped.

  14. If the ‘SJ’ vision for the iPhone 5 is still inherent in this upcoming product then without a shadow of a doubt it will be ‘special’ and will not disappoint. However, all bets are off after iPhone 5.

  15. One of the few thing that depress me about Apple is that Rush also uses it. The other is that little, in the way of Apple production, is done in the U.S.A. now. I may understand but I don’t have to agree with that move. I do not trust the government of China now and never will. I do not trust the word of the Rushster either.
