iPhone 5 purported to leak out of Foxconn factory, boots up to iOS 6 error (with video)

“We won’t see the new iPhone be officially introduced to the world until next week’s Apple event in San Francisco, but the device has been getting plenty of play in leaked photos lately, and now we get a peek at the device in a video, showing off the new iPhone booting up, and a look at how the snappy the device seems to be,” Chris Chang reports for M.I.C. Gadget.

“A tipster tells Chinese tech media Vgooo.com that he has ‘accidentally’ discovered an iPhone 5 prototype when he made a visit to his friend at Foxconn’s factory in Jincheng,” Chang reports. “When he got his hands-on with it, he could feel the phone is thinner, and it is indeed taller.”

Chang reports, “He quickly took some photos, and a video. Well, is the boot up video real or fake? We are not sure, but it’s still interesting to see the device in the video could not be activated…”

    1. i can not see, large lines of people outside Apple to buy this.

There must be more to the new phone other than,
      – a slightly taller screen,
      – head jacks below,
      – thunderbot transfer/charger,
      – maps,
      – siri,

There needs to be “astonishing” things…
…like projection video OR holographic keyboard.

iPhone5 com’on Apple. The rumours and mockups are making a mockery of “doubling down” on secrecy… TIM are you listening?

      1. Apple starts with a good product and refines it and refines and refines it. Each refinement seems small, but they add up over time to a marvelous improvement.. It’s cumulative. They don’t bounce around from design to design, effectively starting over each time.

Expecting a miracle with every new release makes no sense.

          1. A thunderbolt connecter seems unlikely, at least for now. It’s a complex and expensive cable that contains a microchip. Also, most iPhone users either do not own a Mac, or the Mac they have does not have thunderbolt. As far as I know TB does not fall back to USB. Maybe next year.

  1. Let’s hope this not the new iPhone. It’s bigger…..( which sucks) no real design update, just a bigger version of the last phone. No, change in interface and the headphone jack is on the bottom ( another thing that sucks) I’m hoping this is Tim Cooks version of disinformation and he shows a really different phone on Sept 12th. Otherwise there is noting new with this phone. Let’s hope the internals of this phone are groundbreaking…..cause external is nothing new.

    1. Idiot. You want it changed, but don’t want the changes made.
Let’s see your design concepts then, genius. Jonny Ive is responsible for all Apple design, and he refuses to design for fashion reasons. He designs for functionality, and ease of use, following principles laid down by Deiter Rams at Braun.
Go ahead and be a brainless fashion victim, buying the latest glittery toy just because it’s sparkly; meanwhile, millions of others who recognise quality will stick with what has worked consistently well, and continues to improve in ways that benefit the user, not the fashion whore.

  2. Truly hope this is fake, because that stick format of a screen looks totally stupid.

If it is true, it’s a big clusterfuck by Apple.

Great… 600,000 apps that look like shit on that screen and millions of irate users bitching about apps not fitting their screen.

Besides, it is easier to reach to the extra space across the phone and more difficult to reach the top on the long screen.

  3. Different take: If that’s the new iPhone – I’m going to buy a whichever new Windows 8 phone!… This one looks like Johnny Ive haven’t been near around he’s Apples design lab about a year or just to busy of getting congrats for his recent nobility, which none of them I see happened, so it must be a fake. A definite forgery! End of story.

    1. Geezzze, go out and buy a 6.8 inch galaxy to put in your pocket. Its shiny plastic and BIG . So since its different, it must be better…

Wait, is that you Chris/ fake Zune tang, or what ever??? Trolling for a windows 8 phone??? Wow, how low can you go.

      LOL, just LOL

  4. Unless you guys are trolls, I don’t see your complaints. You’ve know for months that it was going to be taller. And those 600,000 apps will run just fine and look exactly the same on the 5 as it does on the 4. And what’s the problem with the headphone jack on the bottom? It has to be SOMEWHERE. Just because it’s different you don’t like it?

    1. Wingsy, you nailed it when you mentioned the trolls, because that’s exactly what they are. They’re getting warmed up for the next “death grip” campaign – you know, the one we’ll hear after iPhone 5 is out for a couple of days.

    2. There was more excitement in last years concepts.
Its boring now. Like commercials and previews do to a movie.
Hom-Hum. So, the rumours are winning.

“Nailed it”, is right, meaning, yeah, we have
been witnessing all this for months now.
      It’s not exciting.

Almost every tiny component has been photographed
videoed, measured out and pieced together.

Tim – don’t be an Obama.

  5. I agree with Wingsy. You all know that Apple doesn’t stand for sudden dramatic changes. They’re all about incremental movements so fix it when the design is already superior in its industry. Tim and Jony are continuing Apple’s tradition of doing this so I’m confused why some of you are complaining.

  6. I hope everyone bitches about this design. I love all the bitching. It will drive the stock down which will allow me to buy more at a cheap price. Then, in a week things will calm down, millions of orders will be placed, and the price will skyrocket. I’ve bought on every price drop since 2008 (starting at $78) and this is the best investment I’ve ever made. Let the bitching commence! And I agree with Wingsy – this is exactly what all the rumors have pointed to for months.

  7. @Wingsy
I agree with you – apps won’t be a problem here, it will take maybe a few weeks until all active developers will update their apps and the headphones will be just fine if they get a proper L-shape plug, if not we all will be holding our new iPhones upside down in our pockets.

But tell us, Wingsy, do you like the design? Are you in harmony with the lack of the design invention?

    1. Who holds their phone in their pocket? The phone will lie according to the shape of the pocket, which is usually on its side anyway, so the jack socket position is irrelevant. In any case, think about how you hold your phone; now think about how you are still holding that phone as you put it into your pocket. You’ve just rotated it through 180 degrees, so the top is now facing down; the best place for the headphone socket is on the bottom, although I concede that all headphones should have either 45 or 90 degree plugs, to avoid stress on the cable. I’ve broken so many headphones because the wire gets bent sideways 90 degrees when the device sits in a pocket.

  8. Dominik,

I’ll just jump in. The design of iPhone 5 looks very, very nice, but I’ll have to hold it in my hand to appreciate its thinner nature and extra height. Having owned every model iPhone except for the 3G, they’ve all been great in their own way. The 4S is such a solid, usable portable computer / phone, and I’m certain the 5 will be fantastic as well.

  9. I like it. Will be ordering 2 when the presale starts and will pass our iPhone 4S’s on to the kids.

If by chance it’s a decoy, I’ll still be order 2. The only reason why I wouldn’t buy the new iPhone is if it had something other than iOS on it.
