“iOS 6 brings a ton of new features to the iPhone, and most of them look pretty useful,” Ben Sillis reports for Electricpig.
“Siri can do more, iCloud gets turbo-charged and Maps is getting turn by turn navigation,” Sillis reports. “But iOS 6 is also full of all sorts of visual tweaks that do absolutely nothing.”
Sillis reports, “We’ve been running the iOS 6 beta since Monday, and we’ve noticed some little visual flairs and flourishes that weren’t there previously. Some are cool, some are daft and some are outright dangerous.”

• For God’s sake, don’t follow the directions on Apple’s new Maps logo
• You can zoom out of the world to the level of the solar system
• Look at the sliders. Via the accelerometer, the reflective sheen on them moves as you angle the phone
• There’s a new dialer

I still want a mobile operating system that doesn’t smell like old sneakers.
Get rid of your Android phone.
OK, this is the second time I’ve read about the Maps logo being wrong as “dangerous”. Uh, no. It’s funny. It’s stupid. It is not dangerous. No one is mistaking the app icon as a direction. It’s not even close. It’s stupid to call it dangerous.
Thats cool that you can zoom the map to view the solar system. That means when Apple finishes their Mother Ship building, they can take it for a spin and they’ll be able to find their way back! 😉
“don’t follow the directions on Apple’s new Maps logo”
It looks like it tells you to turn (fall) off of an overpass to the street below.

“Technology made me drive into a lake.”
OH MY GOD!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for that warning about following the direction . . . of the icon . . . while driving with my eyes close . . . the next time I’m in Cupertino.
That was a close one!
Just so everyone is clear, ON THE MAPS ISSUE…
There is a freeway on ramp there, it’s not the bridge. For brevity I am guessing apple didn’t want to clutter the icon with the ramps (don’t see why not, they have plenty of pixels).
If you actually open the maps app and look at it (or go to some other mapping service) you’ll see the ramps. So they are not bad directions, just not very clear.
It’s a graphic showing which button opens maps, it’s not like you’ll be navigating by the graphic, for Christ’s sake!
Like, who gives a shit…

“• Pull snot to refresh”
I’m surprised it took til the 8th post for someone to ask.
Everyone. Chill the hell out. I don’t think anyone actually thinks that the iOS 6 Maps logo will cause people to plunge to their death. It’s just funny, that’s all. I laughed.

It’s my Laugh Of The Day award winner! I think it’s hilarious.
I’ve seen the reflection sheen on the sliders. I have to give kudos to whoever discovered this because while it is clear when you know what to look at I doubt that I would have noticed it. Now that I know I am mesmerized by it. What other company would condone this level detail upon detail?
Hope this makes it to the final version. Pointless, maybe. But definitely cool! And like you said, a testimony to Apple’s attention to detail.
