Easy fix for Mac OS X 10.7.3 ‘CUI’ and other issues

“Reports of problems after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7.3 have begun multiplying since its release on Wednesday afternoon,” Jacqui Cheng reports for Ars Technica. “The most prominent problem that some users are running into appears to involve a bizarre series of question mark images labeled “CUI” popping up on various screens and error boxes.”

“But don’t worry—you don’t have to wait for Apple to issue a fix, as reinstalling with the 10.7.3 Combo updater seems to take care of the various upgrade issues,” Cheng reports. “Installing the 10.7.3 Combo update—a 1.2GB download from Apple’s website—on top of your existing 10.7.3 installation reportedly remedies the problems introduced from Software Update.”

MacDailyNews Take: No issues here, but we didn’t upgrade any of our Macs via Software Update. Anyone here seeing issues with 10.7.3? If so, did you upgrade via Software Update?

  1. re:MDN take “…we didn’t upgrade any of our Macs via Software Update.”

How does MDN (or anyone) upgrade (update?) without using Software Update?

Or is MDN simply saying they didn’t update at all?

  2. On 15″ MacBook Pro i7 Used software are update. Previously any Adobe Air based software such as Pandora One or Air install/uninstall would only work if Lightroom or Photoshop was running at same time. After updating to 10.7.3 the problem is gone . GREAT for me

  3. Used combo update and had no problems for about a week. Now I ‘m failing to reconnect to my airport when waking from sleep: I get “connection time-out” – the airport is visible but I cannot connect. A restart doesn’t guarantee I’ll connect either. I have to shut down, curse for awhile, and start back up.

I don’t get the CUI error – so far, anyway. BTW, I use “re-open on start-up” and Mail and Firefox (normally open) are re-opening even though I’ve closed them prior to shutdown. Weird.

Had major wifi issues with SnowLeopard, solved by getting an Airport and connecting it to my D-Link wifi with ethernet cord then connecting the macbook to that. Here I go again.

Gosh and Goodness Gracious, I’m jolly annoyed, by gum!
