“Among the many topics discussed by Tim Cook at [yesterday’s] Town Hall session with employees, the Apple CEO revealed some new Apple employee benefits,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“Giving a little more back to the people who worked so hard to make Apple one of the wealthiest corporations in the world, Cook announced that Apple employees will soon be given $500 discounts on purchases of new Macs and $250 discounts on purchases of a new iPad,” Gurman reports. “The new discount program will officially kickoff at some point during June 2012.”

Very cool!
Tim is going to rule the kingdom right!
So they’re giving out items to employees at cost. It won’t affect their bottom line and will make employees a bit happier. What’s the downside?
What a great use for some of that money laying around! Taking care of your employees is a great investment….
Absolutely, you couldn’t say it better.
June? Why not now?
So the rumors can start flying about what will happen in June.
So the employees can get the latest models.
Correct ….. Updates coming and they will be HUGE ones in the way of the laptop …..
Wonder why they are waiting until June, not. I’m sure this will be after the new iPad furor dies down.
Wow, that is very cool. Definitely a nice employee discount.
That’ll make the base Mini awfully cheap for employees! ($99) Can you hook them together?
it’s probably $500 off iMac’s or Mac Pro’s, and goes down to something like $99 off a Mini.
More like “Up to $500 off” type thing.
Could be wrong, but I doubt it’s a blanket $500 off all Mac’s.
ahh, Clicked the article and answered my own comment!
“The Mac discount side of the program excludes the Mac mini, which is already close to that $500 of credit”
Ridiculous. I was guessing every employee at least gets an iPad 2 for free. Totally not cool, Tim.
Whilst it’s a great deal effectively they’re selling them at cost. I’m surprised an Apple employee has to pay full price for Apple products?
The current employee discount is 15% off.
25% for yourself and 15% for friends and families.
and 10% at the Apple boutique in their main campus..
Still in penny pinching mode I see. One hand gives, the other takes away. Why make the eligible period span once every 3 years? Why not make it once every 6 months? That way not only employees but their friends & family will be able to enjoy the benefits of a discounted Mac and spread the Apple love net a little wider.
Apple, as always counting the pennies even with $100 billion in the bank.
Go away “Stockboy”.
Apple’s never right the way you “think”.
Why not make it once per week?
I take it you don’t own any AAPL stock.
Sheesh… all the complaining. At least Apple gives their employees SOMETHING. All the companies I’ve worked for never gave us anything. One employer, a newspaper, back when newspapers were cash cows, even cancelled the annual company Christmas party, because, according to the company memo “it didn’t generate any revenue for the company.” Now they’re about to go tits up. Too bad.
(We fully expected to come to work one day and find coin slots on all the toilet stalls because “they didn’t generate any revenue for the company” otherwise.)
No: credit card slots where you can rent the use of the stalls per minute.
Management there would have loved you and your innovative revenue-enhancement ideas. 🙂
I am happy to say that I work for an awesome company! (I’m the Internet Sales Manager at a Mercedes-Benz dealership).
They pay us very well, they listen to us, and they go above and beyond to make sure that we’re taken care of.
We recently had to go to an all-day training session on a day off, and not only did they provide a ride for us, they hired a limo bus, stocked it full of goodies, and we partied the whole way home!
Every year the top sales person gets a Rolex (I got one for my performance in 2010).
Employees get special leases that are not available to the general public–They want their employees to be seen driving their product.
And best of all, they covered half the expense of my brand new fully loaded MacBook Pro! 🙂
If you don’t like the company you’re looking for, find a new one. Life is too short to hate your job!
Few months ago, they’ve restarted Apple charities program.
Then Cook played it open regarding suppliers responsibility.
Now there are some new Apple employee benefits. Keep going Apple!
There are a lot more things to improve in this world than just products.
What was the employee discount prior to this new one? I know that Apple Store employees when buying on line get 25% off everything, at least as of a few years ago. So this deal might be better or might not be better.
There has been talks for the last 4 weeks about laying off 40% of store staff end of May this year.
just teasing hahaha!
MAN! I left Apple to move to Iowa way too soon! 🙁
As long as you are able to travel vertically on your own it was too soon to move to Iowa.
Discounts for employees with less than 1 year of service. Free iPads for employees with 1 year or more service. Free macs with 3 years or more of service. And that is what I would do if my name was Tim.
I worked for AppleCare Technical Support for nearly 12 years, and we had been asking for a 50% discount since the about the year 2000 (I retired from Apple in 2011). We had suggested that it would be helpful to the employees supporting the products to be as familiar with them as possible, by owning the same products. At least we had the annual one 25% personal discount on Macs and three 15% for friends and family. There was no discount on iPhones or iPads (except for the first generation iPhone that we each received for free, but had to set up our own AT&T account to use them). You also had to have been employed full time for at least a year to be eligible to receive an iPhone. There was also a discount of 15% on the first generation iPhone for friends and family. After that, there was no discount at all for iPhones or iPads. You had to pay full retail price – even though you were an Apple Employee.
Maybe they’ll make it retroactive!
