“Corning Incorporation [sic] announced today its plan to unveil Gorilla Glass 2 at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week, and the company said more product details would be made available Jan. 9,” Élyse Betters reports for 9to5Mac.
“The timely debut of Gorilla Glass 2 comes just before the rumored early-2012 launch of the iPad 3, as well as the rumored summer-to-fall launch of the iPhone 5, leaving room for Apple to include the latest technology on its upcoming devices,” Betters reports. “Although not confirmed, it is worth speculating whether Corning supplied Apple, before today’s announcement, with Gorilla Glass 2 for iOS device production”
Betters reports, “The idea does not seem far-fetched considering the nature of both companies’ relationship.”

So how do you make it better?
Thinner, just as strong? Same but less expensive? Nano solar panels and power creation via kinetic energy? Built in Kilingon translator? Built in focus point for the Force? Shrug, just a few improvement ideas.
Hmm, or maybe it’s made of nano glass that’s designed to absorb HUGE impacts, and makes it almost indestructible.
They put a “2” after the name. 😉
At least it’s not Gorrilla Glass S…
At least it’s not “Gorrilla”.
Better? How about lighter and in sheets 50 inches, measured diagonally. 🙂
“Corning Incorporation”?
What cereal box did this reporter get their education from?
Actually your question should read: From which cereal box did this reporter get his education?
Yes. A preposition is a terrible thing to end a sentence with.
Touché!
“Touché” makes no sense there.
Touché!
@Nerd Beautiful
That’s the sort of thing up with which I will not put.
Yoda says: Right you are.
Is Gorilla Glass used in the current iPhone? It has not been confirmed, has it?
Just read the article. No, it is not confirmed that Glorilla Glass is used in the current iPhone. I should have read the article first.
Actually, it is confirmed since Gorilla Glass itself only appeared on the market thanks to Steven Jobs’ request back in 2005. This glass was developed in 1960s and abandoned for decades because basically no one needed it, using cheap scratchy translucent plastic.
However, this does not automatically mean that Apple will be first user of GG2. There is no information that Apple had first-to-market exclusivity or anything. Apple never had this with Corning — even in original iPhone times.
It’s iPhone 6 not 5. They will skip the 5. A6/6th gen iPhone 6 (666 the price of the Apple I in tribute to Steve.)
No. They won’t.
What in Apple’s history would make you think they’d pull a hacky move like that?
Where’s the iPhone 2?
“666 in tribute to Steve”? I’m guessing you want to rethink that idea. It’s not like the man didn’t have plenty of people who would be happy to demonize him already. Then again, with this being the year of the end of the world, perhaps he was the AC after all, and the price of the Apple I heralded his ascendancy, and it will be his return from the grave that.. Sheesh. Enough already. But there are a lot of easy-to-draw parallels, the more you think about it.
$666 was the cost of one of Steve and Steve’s first products…
how long haven’t you been paying attention to how iPhones are numbered?
iPhone/iPhone 3G/iPhone 3Gs/iPhone 4/iPhone 4s.
Where in that sequence does it indicate the next model will have a 6 anywhere in its name?
It will be iPhone 5.
Dimwit.
Uhh Where’s the iPhone 2? Herp Derp.
dunno if GG was invented back in the 60’s …. but
here’s positive proof it’s been around awhile
The ONLY important question here goes completely unanswered: Will GG2 be all that it’s cracked up to be?
And I’ll bet it still won’t survive aircraft machine gun fire and a fall from the Empire State Building.
That is something up with which I will not put.
Actually, the Apple 1 sold for $666.66.
