Samsung won’t seek injection against Apple’s hot-selling iPhone 4S in South Korea

“Samsung Electronics has decided not to seek an injunction against the sale of Apple’s iPhone 4S in the [South Korean] market,” The Chosun Ilbo reports. “Samsung had debated until the last moment whether to file the motion after making similar applications in France, Italy, Australia, and Japan.”

The Chosun Ilbo reports, “The decision was apparently driven by public-relations concerns. A senior Samsung executive said, ‘We concluded that we should engage in legal battles with Apple only in the global market, but not in order to gain more market share in Korea.'”

  1. I once knew a girl who had Samsung. She told me she got it from a toilet seat. But later I found out she got drunk at a party and did the entire football team. That’s probably how she got it. Anyway, make sure to get your injection.

  2. This is likely to make Samsung look like it’s taking the high ground.

There are lots of buyers for the Samsung products in Korea due to national pride.
This way, Samsung can still say it outsells iPhones without the help of the law.

    At least that’s my take.

Interesting — public relation concerns. Any MDN reader from Korea have any insight how this is perceived on the ground in Korea?

I recall seeing recent reports on lines forming in Korea for the 4S launch. I suppose Samsung doesn’t want to be seen as pushing Korea back into a tech backwater thru court injunctions.

    1. The fact is that Samsung would LOSE within their own country. That is the ultimate loss-of-face. IOW: Samsung know their anti-Apple arguments are bullshite and they are royally screwed. They’ve figured out that the curtain is coming down, on them.

When all is said and done and the flames are extinguished, Samsung want to be able to at least have support, however undeserved, within their own country. Pathetic. 😯
