“The NYPD will soon flood the subway system with dozens of additional decoy officers in an attempt to stem the 16 percent increase the city has seen thus far this year in thefts on trains,” Larry Celona reports for The New York Post.
“The penchant for sticky-fingered thieves to snatch Apple gadgets and other costly electronics has led to the climbing crime stats, sources said,” Celona reports. “The extra cops are wrapping up a five-day training program in which they have been taught how to behave like preferred targets — passengers who are knock-down drunk or asleep.

Fantasyland. The only thing that will reduce crime like that is arresting and fully prosecuting the offender. Then rinse repeat the next time the offender does the same thing.
Then there’s no harm in warning them, is there?
Let’s go back to the Roman days. If they steal, cut off a hand. If they steal again, cut off the other hand. Guess what? Two strikes and you are INCAPABLE of doing it again. No jail time required. 🙂

The real reason why theft of Apple items are up 16%, is because idiots (almost always a transplant) carry their iPads in the open, one-handed, using them as an iPod. They’re just asking for someone to grab it and run. If you’ve ridden the MTA (NYC Subway) lately, you’ve seen it as well.
