Apple fans unite to counter-protest Westboro Baptist Church in Cupertino

“The hate-mongers of the Westboro Church are out with their profane placards in Cupertino today, as we said they would be,” Nicole Martinelli reports for Cult of Mac.

“Right now, they’re outside Cupertino High School, where Justin Li snapped this pic of a counter protester dressed in all black (is that a Jobsian turtleneck?) and sneakers with a sign making a mockery of the church member’s display,” Martinelli reports. “Later, Westboro has said it will try to ruin the Steve Jobs memorial service by brandishing the same trademark awfulness outside Apple headquarters in Cupertino.”

“But Apple fans are on the case. As you can see in the picture above, Apple fans are uniting to counter-protest Westboro’s homophobic, hate-filled picketing,” Martinelli reports. “We don’t think even the counter-protesting is what Steve would have wanted, but you can hardly fault Apple fans for their anger. The memory of Steve Jobs’ legacy is widely cherished, and it is revolting that Westboro is trying to spread their off-topic bile through his memorial service.”

MacDailyNews Take: Hopefully, someone’s made up some signs that say, “Drink the Kool-Aid already!” They’re always good for a chuckle.

    1. That’s one way to look at it. In my opinion, fascists and racists must be publicly opposed, ridiculed, and defeated every single time they dare reveal themselves to the free people of the world.

      1. They are not facists or racists. My God. They religious zealots. They’ve got a couple crazy bees in their bonnet that they can’t let go of. These are the fringiest of the fringe. They do not represent anyone but their small group and do not reflect anything but their own self induced bizarre psychosis. I agree with ridiculing them and opposing them, but calling them fascists and racist gives those groups a bad name.

        1. You must not be very familiar with this particular group. For a group that’s supposedly not racist, this all white group has published a lot of blatantly racist propaganda on their website. And if their rhetoric is to believed, they would have every homosexual person rounded up and executed if they had their way, and have similar ideas regarding Jews and pretty much anyone who doesn’t conform to their beliefs. They might call themselves a church, but what they say and do have much more in common with the fascists and racists of the world then any fundamentalists religious group I’m aware of.

        2. Oh, I am familiar with them. I don’t argue that this group is reprehensible. My point is that being obnoxiously anti-homosexual is not racism. Hating Jews, in the context of religion is not racist. The hatred coming from these folks is based on twisted religious convictions.

    1. Speaking of trolls, I thought it was hilarious that the pay-me-for-not-working-lazy-bastards “occupying” wall street took time out to pay their respects to Steve Jobs, before going back to their protest that people like Steve Jobs should not be tolerated in society.

        1. Guess what: there is corruption wherever Trillions of $$$ are put into the hands a relatively few persons to distribute. That’s what we have in Washington DC. The are some people that will run over their own mother to have the influence possessed by a few in Washington DC. Hey, GeeOne, rather than call Tea Party advocates “tea baggers” and “dicks”, maybe you ought to actually meet some Tea Party people instead of parroting the poison put out by the Daily Koz and its ilk. The Tea Party came in to being because of the political corruption in Washington and squandering of this country’s capital. You really show ignorance and a very closed mind with comments like you made. I don’t know Engineer, but nothing he said had any connection with the Tea Party. The Tea Party people I’ve met come from all walks of life, are of all colors, races and ethnicity. The common cause is a belief that the growth of centralized power, influence and money in Washington DC has become a corrosive influence to our country, and we have to put the brakes on it. Do you believe for a minute that activities on Wall Street that are the supposed reason for the demonstrations would have every happened without the monies put into play by the Federal Government? They say desire for money is the root of all evil? Well, seriously, where in the past half century has there been the most money? Lehman Bros or Washington DC. It’s pretty obvious that our Capitol is the 800 lb gorilla, and has shaped the present we are living in. Want to do something effective about making sure the little guy gets a fair shake? Undo the status quo in Washington. And quit insulting people who are trying to do just that.

        1. Nope, “Engineer” is not a conservative. I have friends who are conservatives; they can think. But I *really* hope “Engineer” is not connected in any way to civil or structural projects, and that his moniker is due to the HO setup in his room.

      1. “Engineer”, Because you’re too stupid to understand what’s going on with Occupy Wall Street, I’ll try to sum it up in as few words as possible so that you, and other confused/misled people, might understand. Occupy Wall Street isn’t against capitalism, it’s against corruption.

I know I used a couple of big words there. You’ll have to look them up on your own. Good luck.

    1. Of course they know what they’re doing. IIRC the leaders of this cult are all lawyers, they WANT an altercation–either by the state or mourners–just so they have an excuse to sue them for violating their first amendment and maybe other rights.

      1. I’ve been told the Westboro creeps have made a lot of money suing people who harass, menace, impede, or attack them. And so they want opposition.

It should be noted they have computers and a web site and today they are angering some of the best hackers in the world, who might be impossible to trace for law suit purposes.

And anyway, hate speech is not legally protected. Fred Phelps’ (their leader) words seem to qualify as hate speech.

  1. One big reason (all be it not the only one) that I could never agree with these people is there “church” website URL is godhatesfags.com. I’m not sure what version (read that as perversion) of Christianity they subscribe to, but this is one soul they’ll never have.

  2. With regards to my last comment, I didn’t know there was a godhatesgodhatesfagsdotcom.com domain registered. While I am in no way affiliated with them, I suspect we share a similar mindset. Mad props to who or whom ever has that domain! I’m still laughing! 😀

  3. Yeah. There’s Neo-Con-Job propaganda inspired HATE…

Then there’s FAKE Christian loony toons HATE.

What would Yeshua (Jesus) do? I suspect he’d be admonishing ALL the HATErs of every shape and size. So next time you’re in HATE mode…

    (Yes, that includes me).

  4. I was at the Apple campus this morning, and none of us even knew the Westboro trolls were even in town until we read it on the web afterwards. They weren’t anywhere near the campus when I arrived.

  5. You’d think that they would change signs to suit the occasion. If they wanted to get under the skin of Apple fans, they should have gone there with signs that say ‘God Hates Macs, Loooooves Windows’
