Sprint CFO: We’re ready for iPhone, but can’t confirm it

“Sprint CFO Joe Euteneuer’s presentation at the Merrill Lynch MEC conference took the unusual approach of declaring his network ready for the iPhone but stopping short of confirming plans,” Electronista reports. “When asked about bracing for the surge in demand from Apple, the executive said the company was ‘going to stay ahead’ of heavy network demand but was adamant the company had to do it ‘irrespective of all the rumors.'”

“‘The benefits of having such an iconic device are really huge,’ he said,” Electronista reports. “As Verizon encountered before it got the iPhone early this year, Sprint customers were regularly asking if the carrier had the iPhone. Phones like the HTC Evo 3D were helping Sprint survive, but weren’t enough. An iPhone on Sprint would ‘level that playing field’ with AT&T and Verizon, according to Euteneuer.”

  1. CDMA technology does not allow you to surf and talk.

If Sprint were to get an iPhone (wink) it would be similar to CDMA phones everywhere. Of course we still do not know that Sprint will ever get an iPhone (wink) in October 2011 (wink).

And the new Sprint iPad 2 (wink) is merely and unfounded rumor (wink)

    Wink, wink.

    1. Phone rings…
      Sprint CEO: This is Joe
Tim Cook: Hey Joe… I am Tim
      Sprint CEO: Tim who?
Tim Cook: TIM COOK FROM Apple!!
Sprint CEO: O O.. O… What can I do for you?
Tim Cook: Remember that NDA you signed???? Can you please STFU about iPhone5?

      – The End –

    2. Actually, it’s EVDO technology, not CDMA. CDMA is a different layer, and frankly is much more advanced and efficient than GSM’s TDMA multiplexing method.

An alternative that Verizon is currently testing is SVDO (simultaneous voice/data), which apparently works well, but which no devices currently support.

(I have a Verizon iPhone, and so far it really hasn’t been an issue.)

  2. Sprint rep to me a few years ago: “Sprint will NEVER get the iPhone. We don’t need it. Our HTC phones are way cooler and superior in many ways.”

    yep……..keep telling yourself that…….
