Unstoppable iPad’s only Christmas competition is Apple’s own iPhone

“With burgeoning iPad sales to the education market just kicking off this month, and clear-sailing from its previous supply chain woes, Apple’s main competition for the lucrative Christmas 2011 market may be the company’s own iPhone 5, which IHS iSuppli predicts will be released this fall,” R. Colin Johnson writes for Smarter Technology.

“IHS iSuppli predicts that Apple will ship more than 60 million iPads in 2011, up nearly 246 percent from the more than 17 million it shipped in 2010 when supply was tight,” Johnson writes. “Apple’s stunning success will drive overall touch-screen tablet sales to more than 274 million units by 2015, according to the IHS iSuppli.”

    1. agreed.

I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
Unless a new iPod had AM/FM/HD/Satellite receivers etc built in.. I have no desire to look at them anymore.
      oh, and bluetooth…..

The rumors of the new iPhone possibly having a AM/FM tuner built in… (Apple patented it last year)
I’ll be very happy if true.

  1. The iPod effect will be in full effect. At that point, no one will be able to deny that the iPad is going to dominate its sector with a 70% to 80% market-share for the foreseeable future.

  2. This is how Christmas will work (for those who don’t know about Apple Christmas traditions). First smaller items like the Apple iPhone, iPod touch and AppleTV fit neatly in the Christmas stockings. Larger items like iPads and MacBook Air are wrapped and spread around under the Christmas tree. Many family members and you love them all. Would your Apple Christmas halo not include them all? Mine does.

    Merry Christmas 2011!

  3. Sell those iPhones and iPads while you can Apple because Microsoft will hit the ground running with Mango goodness and Windows 8 perfection next year.

2012, the year of Ballmer’s greatest triumphs.

After 2012, Ballmer will retire on the beach in Hawaii. No longer the CEO of Microsoft. He will have been Microsoft CEO for as long as it took.
