What the iPhone 5 icon looks like extrapolated into full size

“Earlier today we broke the news that an iPhone icon in the Photo Stream beta software had some new dimensions including a more edge to edge screen and an elongated button, which coincidentally matched the earlier rumors,” Seth Weintraub reports for 9to5Mac.

“One obviously possibility is that this device is a larger-screened iPhone 5,” Weintraub reports. “However, we’ve received word that of the two new iPhones coming out from Apple, this device might actually be the smaller, cheaper iPhone that is set for release at the same time.”

Weintraub reports, “To that end, we’ve got a mock up of what something like that would look like using current iPhone sizes, and the dimensions offered up by the icon if it is a smaller device.”

  1. Just talked to an ATT shop and the guy said on the side… ” If you are looking at buying an iPhone, hold off a couple of weeks….. “5”. ”
    I commented yea, 4s maybe a 5, and he just said “5”.

    1. Most people are terrible at differentiating between what they know to be true and what they suspect might be true. Walk around and talk to people: they will tell you “facts” with absolute certainty when you know that what they are saying is demonstrably false (not just questionable – outright falsehood). And, they aren’t lying to you – they really believe they know it to be true. They just have terrible filters for the reliability of sources, including the reliability of their own observations (human brains tend to “fill in the gaps” automatically when something can’t be seen or heard well).

Worrisome when you think about what that means for the jury system, democratic government, and so on. Fortunately, this effect is mitigated somewhat by polling larger groups of people. Still – yikes!

So, that AT&T guy thinks he knows something – he almost certainly doesn’t.

  2. your att shop guy reads the same rumors we do. he doesnt know anything. my verizon shop told me Att was getting the next iphone when verizon gets the current iphone. we see how that played out

  3. It would be a kick if the new design was for a cheaper, smaller phone with larger 3.7 inch screen but less capacity. And, the 4S is a new phone with all new innards and the new features. Now that sounds like Apple.

  4. I agree w/Currentinterest.
This sounds like Apple. BTW, the new lower-priced phone will absolutely ROCK the pre-paid market and Asia. iPhone market share will explode, assuming Apple can keep up with demand.
