“China surpassed the U.S. in the second quarter to become the world’s largest market for personal computers,” Eric Savitz reports for Forbes.
“The shift reflects both a slowdown in demand in the U.S. market and continued growth in Chinese PC sales,” Savitz reports. “According to new data from International Data Corp., about 18.5 million units worth $11.9 billion shipped in China in the second quarter, compared with 17.7 million units worth $11.7 billion in the U.S.”
Savitz reports, “China now was 22% of the global market, compared with the U.S. at 21%.”

We just outsourced 1st place. The rich get richer, and the middle class is now outsourced to china.
As China’s middle class in the cities make enough money to have disposable income they are finally able to afford things like cars and computers that Americans have grown used to and take for granted. There’s nothing political about it. Just an increasing standard of living for part of the Chinese population.
i applaud the increase of the standard of living in all places and all nations. However, in this case we are I’m recession and they are in acceleration. This is clearly due to the government policy on outsourcing in the private sector. The missing jobs that have created the US recession are in china. You need not look behind the sofa.
At this point it is good to remember the facts about jobs Apple creates:
“Now come what might be the surprises. The first is that even though most of the iPod jobs are outside the United States, the lion’s share of the iPod salaries are in America. Those 13,920 American workers earned nearly $750 million. By contrast, the 27,250 non-American Apple employees took home less than $320 million,” Freeland reports. “That disparity is even more significant when you look at the composition of America’s iPod workforce. More than half the U.S. jobs — 7,789 — went to retail and other nonprofessional workers, like office support staff and freight and distribution workers. But those workers earned just $220 million.”
Freeland reports, “The big winners from Apple’s innovation were the 6,101 engineers and other professional workers in the United States, who made more than $525 million.”

No surprise here. China, as capitalism slowly works into their economy, is developing a larger middle class, and that middle class wants things (computers, mobile phones, cars, sports team gear, etc.). beyond the necessities.
Seeing as China has 4X the U.S.’ population, this was only a matter of time.
From the article:
“Note that totals do not include the tablet market.”
(bloodbath)
Time to move to China…
… if you’re interested in purchasing a PC.
And being ruled by a dictator that watches your every move. You will likely have a higher IQ and live longer though…
Don’t fool yourself, China has its many problems.
Corrupt and opaque government, such to make Washington seem transparent in comparison.
Pollution. Air. Water. Land. Food.
Population issues. An aging population with no social safety net; and they never had the chance to save for retirement because that would have been a capitalist thing to do.. An under educated middle agent population; they should have been in school during the Cultural Revolution, but weren’t.
Multiple social disruptions caused by the one child policy, combined with the tradition preference for sons. Do you know any American families that adopted a male Chinese orphan? How about a girl? Yes, they only export female children. Already, this has caused an unbalance number of males to females, and has led to kidnapping of young women to be brides for older men. Also, the Chinese traditionally have the children support their parents in their old age. With the one child policy, a family will have to support bot sets of parents; there will be no siblings to help out. One child per family has given rise to what are referred to as “Little Emperors”, only children who are spoiled rotten and lack social skills normally developed with siblings.
This is just a start.
I actually know a family who adopted two Chinese children – one girl and one boy. But you are correct regarding the historical gender preferences, especially under the one child per family policy. Some very sad things happened…
You are incorrect. The average Chinese worker saves a minimum of 50% of their salary. MINIMUM! The savings rate here is ENORMOUS. Cars are bought with CASH. Down payments on houses exceed 30-40%. The Chinese government is working night and day to turn Chinese savers into spenders. It is NOT winning that battle yet.
Shocker, especially since there are 1 billion more chinese than americans.
Is this the story or is it how long they took to get here given their weak history of governance?
Civilization will fall and rise .
The US has reached it’s apex , so now it is falling .
China too will face the same fate.
Learn from history , countries always fall due to greed and corruption .
Those who say their countries are transparent Abd corrupt free are just fooling themselves.
