Apple may be planning something big for 10th retail anniversary; major product launch?

“According to a tip we received from a trusted source, Apple will hold an all-hands employee meeting in US retail stores on Sunday, May 22,” Federico Viticci reports for MacStories.

“The retail meeting will start at 7 AM, an ‘unusual time’ says our source, considering Apple usually holds this kind of meetings on Sunday evenings, after stores close,” Viticci reports. “Of course, there’s plenty of room for speculation about this retail meeting: with the WWDC approaching (kicks off in San Francisco on June 6), Apple might want to train employees for the rumored new MobileMe features, iCloud, or some other product scheduled to be announced at the developer event — as also suggested by MacRumors back in April.”

Viticci reports, “It’s worth noting, however, that Apple celebrates the 10th anniversary of Retail this week, with several websites claiming the company was on track to set up special events and store merchandise for the anniversary.”

Jonathan S. Geller reports for BGR, “Apple may be planning something big for its 10th retail anniversary this Thursday the 19th. There’s an overnight shift planned for around 10-15 individuals at each Apple Store to work from late Saturday all the way through mid-Sunday. During the overnight shift, it’s going to be required that employees lock cell phones in the main office. They will also have to sign an NDA with Apple.”

“Apple stores have apparently already received hardware to install, and are expecting more hardware to come on Friday or Saturday,” Geller reports. “All materials that Apple stores have received have been instructed to be under lock and key until after close on Saturday night. Apple employees will be putting up black curtains at all stores so that people walking outside cannot see inside.”

      1. Definitely a new product. All the new products haven’t been released yet. I expect a new piece of consumer hardware, with an incredible “WOW” factor.

  1. New product?
    What’s left right now?…
    New mac pro maybe.
    iPhone 5 everyone thinks september.

Outside MobileMe and the new data center, I dont see anything updated. Has to be something new, not a refresh.
    Just my opinion anyway.

    1. … waited for iWork.com to come out of Beta? How long have we waited for the monster data-center to come on line? Then, of course, there have been rumors regarding MobileMe … which I can’t verify except to say “something” is happening with it.

  2. well, it can’t be some new hardware product. there would have been lots of good and bad leaks by now from asian sources about that. so it has to be software, and something in advance of WWDC. about the only thing that would make sense to launch that way is the iTunes cloud service that has been rumored for many months. along with a new MobileMe of some kind. they still sell Mobile in boxes, so that could be the embargoed shipment.

  3. Well I just bought a Mac mini server (which hasn’t been updated in awhile) so I hope it’s not some new hardware that blows it out of the water. Then again, I’d hate to stand in the way of progress.

    1. 42″, 52″ and 60″ Apple HDTVs along with the launch of the iCloud service – simultaneously. The new TV and media experience – built by Apple from start to finish – just like the Mac computer experience. Sure to raise the bar on the future of media delivery for everyone worldwide.

      Wouldn’t THAT be some sh*t?

  4. iClone. Not only does Steve live forever but every Apple Store is equipped with both an RDF and a Steve Jobs working their magic during all store hours.

  5. I was thinking they were going to release a new T-Shirt, not just Blue from now on, a new white one available in UK only in October. Steve can send an XXL size to Ballmer
