Apple has pulled the Exodus International app from their iTunes App Store.
Recently, Jeff Buchanan, Exodus International’s Senior Director of Church Equipping & Student Ministries, told The Christian Post, “In no way shape or form is our message about trying to cure or do we try to promote that type of methodology or message… This is a label (gay cure app) that has been put forth by opponents to the application to serve as propaganda in order to stigmatize and really label the application in a false way and provoking a response such as you are seeing with the application.”
Katherine T. Phan reports for The Christian Post, “Over 107,477 people have petitioned Apple to remove the Exodus app from the iTunes store. The petition, launched by Truth Wins Out, a LGBT rights group, calls Exodus’ message ‘hateful’ and ‘bigoted.’ On Monday, Truth Wins Out, whose name is a play on words of Exodus’ Love Won Out conferences, urged more people to sign its petition.”
In addition to releasing a video on why Apple should remove the app, the LGBT rights group also pledged to continue pressuring Apple until the app is removed, even promising to hold a press conference featuring victims of ‘ex-gay’ programs in front of the company’s offices if their demands are not met,” Phan reports. “We are disheartened at the fact that there are activists who are rising up to silence our voice on the Exodus iTunes platform,” said Buchanan. “We want to ask that there would be fair and equal representation of religious belief on this platform as is already existing. We would like the spirit of diversity and tolerance that is so valued within the LGBT community.”

I’m seeing a fair amount of hate and anger in the comments here, from all sides, so I’d like to quote something you may have heard once or twice before:

The “love” being spoken of here is not related to physical lust, or the “love” we may have for, say, products made by Apple (guilty!). Instead, the original Greek word being translated here is agape, which specifically refers to a selfless, voluntary and unconditional love. That’s the love Christ showed for all of us, even those who were taunting Him and spitting on Him as He died.
That’s a very, very difficult standard to live up to, and sadly, there are far too many people who say they follow Him, while failing to show even a hint of this kind of love to others. But just because there are plenty of bad examples of Christianity to be found, does not make Christianity itself invalid. (Sort of like how, just because there are a lot of very bad copies of Apple devices flooding the market, doesn’t mean Apple devices don’t exist, and doesn’t mean they’re not really as good as claimed.)

So please, love those who disagree with you. Speak kindly to those who call you terrible names, accuse you of following fanciful “sky-god” myths, or say hateful things to you in the name of “love”. So why is this being banned? I get that some people are offended by the idea that a gay might change their orientation, but certainly those people can ignore it and not download it? But there might be some people it could help…I am offended by a huge amount of stuff in iTunes store – explicit, bad taste (farting apps, really?), and disagree with apps representing other religions than my own. But I am considerate enough to recognize that those are of value (be it only entertainment value) to some other group. Out of love for them and for the Jesus who loves ALL people, I don’t make a stink and forebear with those things. Why can’t others also show consideration and allow something they disagree with that might be helpful or valued by someone else?

The point is, just as those in the “gay community” demand the availability of certain types of software, those in the “non-gay community” should also have the right to demand the availability of certain types of software. End of story. Apple is clearly wrong here. But none of this really matters, because the banned software will certainly be made available on other platforms. Apple has a sizeable market share, but it doesn’t have a monopoly and it can’t control supply and demand.

This is a sad case of Apple pandering to those who are completely unhurt but apparently offended by the existence of this app. Nobody is forced to download it and it’s not pre-installed as a part of iOS. I fail to see what’s wrong with allowing the consumer to decide if it’s a desirable app to have or not.

But reparative therapy isn’t just bad medicine — it’s also very damaging to the self-esteem and mental health of its victims.

Not all who die of AIDS-related diseases are gay. Most who die of AIDS in Africa are heterosexual. AIDS can be transmitted during genital intercourse between men, women, or a man and a woman.
So in what way does being gay kill you?

It does not represent the government in any way, so it is free to exclude from its app store any app they desire, just as they are able to exclude music, TV, or movies they don’t like. As someone who turned away from homosexuality years ago, I can authoritatively state that it is a daily choice. Every. Day. It is a daily struggle. However, I would not have had my two sons, or a relatively satisfying relationship with my spouse, who I met after choosing to reject my predisposition, without the struggle. It has borne enormous dividends. It has been worth it. I associate with others who have also walked the harder path, and it has been worth it for them as well. It’s only my old friends from the lifestyle 20 years ago, at least those who are not yet dead, who shun me. Talk about bigoted and hurtful.
Its kind of like drugs. I used to do a lot of drugs in my day. Every time I shot up, it was my choice. Everyone I did drugs with loved me until I decided to go to rehab. Now when I see them on the streets they won’t even hold their coin cup in my direction. Really, looking at me now makes them feel horrible for what they’re still doing.

I think my choice has taken a certain amount of courage, and, I repeat, it has been worth it. I’m a faithful spouse, and a good parent. There’s a plethora of information here. Also, take into consideration that they really are NOT including bi-sexual sex between men and women. The numbers for heterosexuals would be lower if you included homosexual women I believe as well.
However, based purely on the numbers that are present, you can see that it’s a 50% higher likely chance for homosexuals.
So it’s only a “choice” when it’s being forced upon society, the military, elementary and pre-school children, but not when someone really wants to change their behavior? The message I hear is clear. You’re queer, you’re here, and you’ll do everything you can to make more of you.
