Apple’s next-gen iPad expected to ignite sales boom

“With Apple’s iPad 2 event reportedly set for March, analysts are scurrying to predict how many tablets the company can sell,” Larry Dignan writes for ZDNet. “Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes takes the first crack at guesstimates… ‘We expect iPad sales will increase significantly in 2011, benefiting from a major upgrade that features a thinner and lighter design, along with cameras and FaceTime calling. Our iPad unit estimate for calendar first quarter is 5.1 million, which takes into account seasonality after the holiday buying season and a potential lull before iPad 2 ships in April. Long term, we estimate 28.8 million iPad units for fiscal year 2011 (33.7 million for calendar year 2011) and 40 million for FY12 (42.1 million for CY12) which are likely quite conservative.'”

Dignan reports, “Others are likely to follow. But one thing is clear: Apple’s iPad 2 is expected to really scale the company’s sales.”

    1. Look at my avatar. He’s laughing at you with your Zune HD, bloated OS Windows tablets and Motorola Doom (Xoom) tablet. Ten years later and Microsoft still can’t get consumers to buy a Windows tablet. It’s gotten so bad that PC vendors have to be forced into building them.

I predict the iPad 2 will outsell the Xoom 10 to 1 because Motorola knows nothing about selling products, good or bad.
      Hahahaha

    2. You all do realize that Zune Tang® purposely trolls this blog to poke fun at all things Apple to show just how preposterous it is to poke fun at Apple, right?

Keep up the great work ZT, we’ve missed your comments as of recent.

    1. Not true. The Xoom will very possibly crush the poor store employees whose job it will be to remove all the unsold over priced tablets from the shelves after a few months time. It is for them that I pray.

  1. We have a two iPad household, we will buy two more and pass ours down to the grandkids …. And we have five grandkids, so we will be buying the next 3-4 generations, until our little clan has one each ……

Did same with ipodtouch and MacBooks and iMacs ….. Yea we have purchased a ton of apple products and will continue as long as they innovate ….

  2. The number like myself who are just waiting for version 2 iPad is unimaginable and unsustainable to meet on any production line. I borrowed and used version 1 from work for a week and now we are just waiting for version 2, and in order to avoid a “who’s gonna use it now” war with our gaming youngster, we are considering a second one sooner rather than later…this thing can really cause a family argument because everybody wants to use it.
