Ronald Reagan Presidential Library adds 250 Apple iPod touch ‘tour guides’

Apple Online Store“The mission-style building that houses the recently renovated Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, Calif., perches atop a bluff with spectacular views that conjure up the dozens of Westerns that Reagan the actor shot on location,” Kelly DiNardo reports for The Washington Post. “But what’s most in keeping with the 40th president’s first career can be found inside: elaborate interactive programming that brings the Gipper to life.”

“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation has orchestrated a $15 million renovation to be unveiled in a private ceremony as part of Reagan’s 100th birthday celebration Sunday. It will open to the public Monday,” DiNardo reports. “Several weeks ago, as electricians still tinkered, I previewed the museum with Rob Bauer, director of external affairs. The exhibits still trace Reagan’s life from his childhood to his years as a lifeguard through his careers as a sports announcer, actor, governor of California and president.”

“With all due respect to Bauer, however, the true charmer is his partner on our tour: an iPod touch. In addition to 180 video screens, two teleprompters and a green screen, the museum now features 250 of the patent-pending devices to lead you through the displays,” DiNardo reports. “The iPod touch provides the audio tour, giving background at specifically designated spots. More interestingly, it allows me to take photos and video as I wander through the museum.”

DiNardo reports, “I finish the tour, thank Bauer and return the iPod touch. But it’s not over. Within hours, I have an e-mail from the museum with a link to a Web page housing my personal media library of all the pictures and videos I took on my visit. From here, I can download my tour or share it through Facebook and Twitter. An endless encore for my trip.”

  1. “Reagan won the cold war and lifted the country out of malaise both of heart, reigniting patriotism and pride, and economic, by cutting taxes to spur an economic boom that lasted decades”

It really is that simple in your mind, isn’t it? lol

Can I ask what your major was in University?

  2. @Tower Tone
I’m a 56 er” so yeah I was definitely around for all of that, your musical influences are similar to mine, as are your “musical chops”, what I don’t get is how we can have such a different ideology. We could perhaps, be great friends musically but politically 180 degrees. I’d like to be reasonable in light of recent events and overall as a person occupying the same planet for everyone’s good. I’ll back off the political one up-mans-ship if you will, in the interests of making music and promoting a peaceful and productive change. What’da say, I’m tired of all this bullshit. Rock-on.

  3. “what I don’t get is how we can have such a different ideology.”

I was raised in a working class environment early in my life, then learned economics through my parent’s businesses, then struck out on my own early and lived near poverty for five years with two kids.

All my rants are based on real world experience. Where money comes from, where it goes, and what it does in between to a blue collar man.

  4. If not for actual journalists who brought it to light, under Reagan, one of his political appointees would’ve gone through with classification of ketchup and relish as vegetables to save some money serving lunches at schools to poor kids.

  5. Now there’s a real President and person. Boy I miss those days. This country is in an out of control tail spin thanks solely to liberalism/Marxism. 2012 can’t come soon enough. We have to rid ourselves of these lunatics. I love the new laws being enacted by more than 10 states demanding the original birth certificate for all presidential hopefuls. That will knock Maobama out of the race.

iPod Touches rock and so did/does Reagan!

  6. Macmaster and comrades,

You vile, scum of the earth are on an incoherent death spiral for the US. If you hate it here so much just leave. Move to one of those communist Utopia’s around the world and leave us hard working, producers the hell alone. Reagan was beyond the best. You commies are beyond the worst. Right on Reagan Library! Keep up the Apple goodness.

  7. @You Pompous Ass
I had to Wikipedia “skin flute” as I didn’t know what you were referring to to, apparently it comes from your home town, how were you ever birthed???? That means” birth certificated”. By the by, just how pompous is your ass anyways, you know that means, umm, rather large, why not go by ” enormous ass” next time so we all know just how big you are, and while you’re researching the above, why not make a pledge to elucidate (not the trance duo) yourself as to the more refined aspects of musical instruments, i.e. the Bodhran, which probably puts your musical heritage to shame.

  8. RE- Superior Being
“Ronald Reagan is one of America’s Top 3 Presidents.

    1. Washington
    2. Lincoln
    3. Reagan”

    You are joking, right?
I think you need to separate Reagan the Myth from Reagan the President. He was a good pitchman and loved America. Let’s leave it at that.

  9. @Kelly
Actually I’d prefer “you scum and collegium” as “communist’s” is really too strong a word for the present day approach. Communists is SO sixties, where have YOU been. I’m unaware of the “Utopias” you speak of, any manifestos I’ve read have certainly failed to mention this, mostly it’s hard work and death. Perhaps it resides where the ” Cock brothers” live, or is it the Koch” brothers, they certainly don’t seem to have any worries about survival, but that’s unbridled Capitalism for you.

    Peace

  10. Macmister,

Canada, UK, Europe, Russia, China, etc. You would fit in very nicely in any one of those Marxists bastions. Please leave us hard working folk alone. We don’t need any more hope and change from Obamaninadjeen. He has hurt this country more than can be imagined. It will be proven that he was never eligible to be President and we conservatives will revoke everything done to us by him and his cronies.

  11. @Superior Being?

Really seems like some people aren’t up on their presidential history:

    1. Washington
    2. Lincoln
    3. Teddy Roosevelt
    4. Jefferson
    5. FDR
    6. Polk
    7. Jackson
    8. Truman
    9. Wilson
    10. Eisenhower

There is a reason why TR is on Mt Rushmore… Placing Reagan that high on your list shows that a lot of people are desperate for a “great” Republican president. We had one in the 20th century and sorry Reagan while a fine president was no in the same league as TR and certainly not worth of Mt. Rushmore.

As usual conservatives tend to over estimate Reagan’s importance while liberals tend to under estimate. The reality is somewhere in the middle. Reagan was important but he wasn’t even the best Republican president of the 20th century.

It’s also ironic that the “big tent party” that he created is now vilified by the Republicans and they now embrace this weird right wing ethos in his name. Equally ironic that as a more centrist politician in his governing (note, I didn’t say his ethics or morals) that he would never get the nod from his own party now. Reagan when you look at him, really look at him was a pragmatist.

The other reality is that the President has little control of economies whether they boom or bust: Too much blame when things are bad, too much credit when its good. Its like NFL QBs in sense.

Lest anyone think I spare the Dems: their last great president was Truman. Kennedy was a dream that has become legend and myth, just like the Republicans idolization of Reagan. Slick Willy didn’t vote for him.

And to close this all out I wish I had more choices because listening to both of the parties and their whiny crybaby supporters is tiresome. Don’t like it too bad. How about you all move out of my country if you can’t work together. And ironically Reagan understood that, the modern Republican Party doesn’t, they are too busy worrying about 2012. Which if they run Palin they might as well give the office to the Dems for 4 more years.

And since I mentioned TR Roosevelt, the Repubs should look at the election of 1912. If they run Palin they run a real possibility of splitting the party and ensuring a Dem win

  12. @geoman

You left out the S&L catastrophe. After legalizing gambling by the S&Ls;, the Reagan administration also wanted to eliminate regulatory audits. When they couldn’t, they used the expedient of slashing the audit budget virtually to zero. So not only were the foxes given an escalator to the hen house, the guard dogs were put to sleep.

  13. Reagan was such a a patriot and American. We are under assault from the communists, Marxists, etc. posing as liberal democrats. We see and know what is happening. You people are not the masterminds you think you are. Anyone who isn’t a lost drone-sheeple should read The Law by Frederick Bastiat. Sums it up back in 1850. Chrissyzero you are a sad, sick person.

  14. Good leaders are hard to come by because they have to start with who they are and not what others think they are. He was there when he felt very bad we had hostages in Iran and he did not like what he felt. Thankfully we felt the same and elected him.
