According to Net Applications, Apple’s iOS platform, which runs the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch gained the most overall usage share in December.

The shares listed below are the percentage of all browsing on the web by all devices, including PCs and consoles:

The standout in this list is the iPad, which grew at an amazing 33.3% month-to-month.
Net Applications notes that these shares include the holiday season and historically level off in January.

iOS had the greatest share gain, but Android had the greatest growth rate. So look to both sides to crow.

Yeah, more people are buying Androids, then don’t use them.
Forget the percentage figures. The graph says it all. iOS’s gain over Android is accelerating.
Net Applications can’t read their own numbers!
in Jan 2010: Mac, iOS, Safari share gained.
in Jan 2009: Mac, iOS, Safari share gained.
in Jan 2008: Mac, Safari share gained; iOS flat.
in Jan 2011, again, the full impact of holiday gifts will show.
@LordRobin
I don’t see how Android can have the greatest growth rate when their sales are goosed by ‘buy one get one free’.
Wouldn’t that just be a case of reverse revenue drain?
Android: four times as cheap at half the price.
On a somewhat related note, Netcraft survey of over 255,000,000 webservers — yup, that’s 255 million — shows that Microsoft has, once again, returned to about 20% share in the active web server market. (Ok, actually 22.22%.) It seems their big spending (bribing?) hosts to use IIS in ’06 has run its course. It’s the second time they’ve tried to buy share…
Obvious. Adroid is a real piece of shit.

Maybe true for the month of January, but NOT for this quarter if both the Verizon iPhone and iPad 2.0 are released before end of February. Of course, both may happen toward the end of the quarter (and maybe even the start of next quarter for iPad). But whenever they happen, the impact will be dramatic.
iOS has a big advantage with Apple selling three “big” devices in three markets.

Yes, then again, in November Android was 1.05% behind iOS; and in December Android was 1.29% behind iOS. So, losing ground in absolute terms is NOTHING to crow about, even when your growth rate is fractionally higher.
It’s a free POS of shit so how does that count.
There is only one figure they need to compare – average data use per smartphone OS. That is where Verizon knows it is losing out to ATnT and why it needs the iPhone.
