“I get a lot of readers asking me, ‘How can I make free calls from my iPod touch?’ Well, the answer is much simpler than you may think,” Bryce Daniel reports for TodaysiPhone.
“It involves only 4 major steps and in fact, it takes maybe a whole 15 minutes out of your day to do this,” Daniel reports. “After that, you are free to make and receive calls from an actual phone number as well as text and receive texts.”
Daniel reports, “First off, you head over to Google Voice and get a number.”
Full article, with the rest of the steps, here.
google!?! that’s what this was about
how dreadfully disappointing :/
that app should even be aloud on the app store in the first place!!
Google concerns aside for a second (and they a real concerns don’t get me wrong), will this method work on iPad too?
Sounds good, but…
“Google Voice is not available in your country.
Thanks for visiting Google Voice.
We’re not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future.”
Or you could check out any number of other free apps that don’t rely on google.
Will be attempting this on my iPad
will this app do the same thing?

First off…..Forget about Google.
Yeah you lost me at “Google”
I just use Whistle phone. You get a phone number and all calls sent an recieved are free. I suggest that!!
Read until I saw Google..
You know, Google Voice is a great tool for a myriad uses. I use it for Craigslist transactions when some schmuck absolutely has to talk to me, or when I run into that person from way back that I never really cared to see again but really wants my number so we can keep in touch. Joy! Not using it simply because it’s a Google product is just stupid. If they want to track the fact that I just sold some of my old crap, have at it. It’s not like I can’t control what information I make available to them. I know emailing is hard and everything but somehow I’ve managed to wrangle multiple accounts. I’m sure if you practice and flex in the mirror twice a day, you could too. Whistle by itself makes you listen to an ad, which is just annoying. I don’t like talking on the phone as it is and making me listen to a freaking ad just to complete my call only adds insult to injury. This is a great work around and, yes, it works on the iPad too.
Nothing like pop up ads on your iPhone while trying to read an article at MDN. Thanks asswipes. You’ll never encounter that crap at Mac Rumors or Apple Insider.
Use skype???
Duh…
Why are you hating in google. This method works really well, and I havent found anything as good.
