“Oracle amended its Java complaint against Google over Android patent infringement and provided line-by-line comparisons in its exhibits,” Larry Dignan reports for ZDNet.
“In its tweaked complaint, Oracle ups the ante against Google, who has called the lawsuit baseless,” Dignan reports. “Oracle, which first sued Google over Android in August, said: In at least several instances, Android computer program code also was directly copied from copyrighted Oracle America code. For example, as may be readily seen in Exhibit J, the source code in Android’s “PolicyNodeImpl.java” class is nearly identical to “PolicyNodeImpl.java” in Oracle America’s Java, not just in name, but in the source code on a line-for-line basis.“
Dignan reports, “Indeed, if you look at those exhibits the lines of code are identical.”

Google, Apple, Microsoft, RedHat, Oracle and other companies all have the right to defend their intellectual property.
Oracle believes that Google has infringed on their patents. Google disagrees. The court will decide if the material presented by Oracle is enough to warrant a case for further exploration. If it does, then the court will decide if Google is infringing or not.
A lot of people hated Oracle even before they bought Sun. Whether they go after Google or not won’t change that. It’s sad that Sun is being dismantled as it is. But Larry will always do what he thinks is best for Oracle and that pisses a lot of people off. Plus Larry was also on the Board of Directors at Apple and considers Steve a close friend. So I can see how going after Google is both business related and personal.

No I wouldn’t mind if both renewed itself, which is what software is really like as it’s something that can be reproduced almost effortlessly. A real girls mind (after the horrors of you raping her) and a refrigerator full of food can’t.
Software is a shared concept like air or water, you get to use it, then I get to use it. After I’m done someone else gets to use it. Along the way it gets better as more minds look the code and think “hey I can improve that”. Evolution occurs.
It’s when a bunch of people say, “No it’s mine and I’m not letting you see it” is when the trouble starts and the innovation ceases and exploits multiply as less minds look at the code.
You know why Windows is so prone to vulnerabilities?, because it’s closed. You know why Linux and BSD Unix (the core of OS X) is so secure? Because many people get to look at the code, make changes, diverge it’s path for different uses etc.
