Apple has published the following statement on their iPhone Case Program website:
We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.
More info about the program here.
MacDailyNews Take: This concludes this failed test of the anti-Apple FUD system.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Readers “Fred Mertz” and “Judge Bork” for the heads up.]
My iP4 has the death grip non-issue, and the free case fixed it as did the cheap case I fitted to it until my free case arrived. In retrospect the whole thing amounts to no more than a popcorn fart in a tin can. I purchased my iP4 knowing that if the problem was not fixable I could return it to Apple for a full refund, but haven’t considered that option since I started to use it. I love my iP4 and could care less what all of the piss ants in the cheap seats babble about.
New perspective: Even higher sales for Apple before September 30 to take advantage of free case offer. Especially from those who were at first skeptical. If only they could keep up with demand.
Brilliant.

Why is this story being run now when it’s only Sep 10th when the Program ends Sep 30th? Slow day in the news room?!
I’m still waiting for the white iPhone to be in production!

Maybe because Apple published the “statement” today. Also, it gives people time to buy an iPhone 4 now, to get the free bumper “no questions asked,” as mAc-warrior mentions above.
My first cellular phone was a Siemens C25. Do you know it?
After some years I got a Nokia 6xxx, this was real crap, unless
it had a clock, calendar and some gadgets.
When the Nokia died (battery contact issue and power switch) I
returned to my C25. Still today I use it as my only mobile phone.
Never hat issues and had a fine keyboard.
But I think, its time for a new phone, cause the 2nd battery is at
its end, When I disconnect the charger it switches off.
I will soon buy an iPhone 4 and will be really happy with it.
I really dont understand, what you are talking about. If you are unsatisfied, simply return it and buy everything else.
If you loves something, you are satisfied with all the pros and cons.
Some people can think further ahead than next week.
It is however interesting that Apple added that it will continue to provide a free case to the “small percentage of iPhone 4 users” who need one…
