“Here we go again,” Eric Savitz reports for Barron’s. “On Wednesday, Apple will host yet another of its periodic signature-product launch events, to be held as has been the company’s habit of late, at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.”
Savitz reports, “There’s still so much buzz reverberating around the Valley about the iPad and the latest-generation iPhone, that expectations for this shindig are lower than has been the case for the past few Apple media extravaganzas… But I suspect that Wednesday could actually produce an important set of announcements.”
“Every year since 2005, Apple has held a September event to update its line of iPod music players for the coming holiday shopping season. And that seems almost certain to be repeated this time. Almost everyone who tracks Apple seems to agree that the company will put some of the iPhone 4’s new features into a refreshed iPod Touch,” Savitz reports. “According to the conventional wisdom, that will mean including front- and rear-facing cameras, providing FaceTime video-chat software and using the crystal-clear Retinal Display that debuted in the iPhone 4.”
MacDailyNews Note: He means “Retina display” and “iPod touch.” (sigh)
Savitz continues, “Evidence continues to mount that the company is working on a major update to its Apple TV set-top box. The talk is that it will be based on the same iOS software used for the iPad and iPhone, and that there will be access to the App Store. A new-generation Apple TV and a TV streaming service would be a nice combination. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster maintains that Apple eventually will get into the connected TV business. While CEO Steve Jobs has been reluctant to move in that direction to date, things change; you might remember that there was a point where he also played down the idea of getting into the phone business.”

I WANT MY WHITE IPHONE 4!!!!!
I WANT FACETIME WITH FRONT FACING CAMERA FOR IPAD!!!
I WANT IPHONE 5
Troll alert.
Dear Apple,
Thank you for all the great cool stuff.
DC
Troll? I don’t know. I want all those things too. I am patiently waiting for a white iPhone for my wife. I think Face Time on the iPad is a natural. And from what I’ve read, I might want to hold off on the iPhone 4 and hold out for v.5.
All this shouting is giving me a headache.
I WANT MY MTV!!!
How about “Face Time” integration with Apple, or, umm… I mean iTV?
That would be nice!
I don’t know about Apple TV.
That guitar graphic on the invitation says music to me, not TV.
I don’t think we’ll see the iTV at this event. It will be just new iPods, iLife, and iWork. I’m still calling the “mystery” app in iLife to be a HTML-5 content creator.
Thanks for the laugh, Jax44!
“And from what I’ve read, I might want to hold off on the iPhone 4 and hold out for v.5.”
I don’t know what you’ve been reading, but my guess is that it involves ZDNet, PC World or Fox ‘News’. While you’ve been reading, I’ve been using my iPhone 4, the most amazing iPhone yet. No. The most amazing phone. Period.
@dpr1961
I WANT YOU TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCK!
He means … “iPod touch.” (sigh)
Cut these guys some slack! Apple uses some funky-assed capitalizations, and you go all Robert DeNiro on them for not getting it exactly as Lord Jobs decreed!
(Sorry, it’s Saturday and I have to work on a beautiful summer day. You’d be grumpy too.)
Still waiting for a DVB-T receiver.
Rev. Dr: Is this better? I still want all that I wrote previously!!
Maybe finally we can have an Apple event that isn’t hyped out of this world.
@qka
And, yet, they somehow manage to get the “Sony VTX-1730A/530R60” model correct. The iPod “touch” uses a lowercase letter. Why not get it right?!
Are you one of those people who believes that we should not give kids a grade lower than a 50%, even if they don’t do their work. Would you rather your doctor give you a “pane killer” or a “pain killer” before your surgery. Why all of this tolerance for shoddy writing?
Professionals should put in the effort required to generate products of clarity and accuracy. They should not settle for mediocrity.
maybe they’ve finally decided to fix the proximity sensor in the iphone and the heat problems in the ipad?
@Brulek, what heat issues?
Mine’s just fine, in fact, been using it almost constantly for the last 3 hours whilst simultaneously house keeping my podcasts on my MacBook Pro. Games, email, web based news… my aluminium case is pretty cold.
The sim tray eject tool looks to be made of liquid metal too. Makes me wonder how the sim tray was made, the engineering tolerance is just awesome.
pocketRocket,
He means using an iPad out in direct sunlight will cause it to overheat and shut off.
NO… MDN…
The correct is “iPod Touch”
@karlv:
Huh? http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/
