Yankee Group: 73% of U.S. iPhone users very satisfied with AT&T

“Despite a very vocal group of detractors, the vast majority of iPhone users love AT&T,” David Goldman reports for CNNMoney.

“That’s the key finding in a survey released this week by Yankee Group, which reports that 73% of iPhone users are very satisfied with AT&T’s service,” Goldman reports. “That rating compares favorably to how non-iPhone smartphone users feel about AT&T, and even to how non-iPhone users feel about other wireless providers.”

Goldman reports, “The satisfaction rate of AT&T subscribers as a whole is 68%, and only 69% of smartphone users say they are satisfied with their mobile provider, Yankee Group found.”

“The results are surprising, given the pounding AT&T has taken in the media and on the blogosphere about its service-related issues with the iPhone,” Goldman reports. “So what explains Yankee Group’s conclusion that iPhone users’ love AT&T? ‘Consumers transfer the high gloss of their Apple iPhone experience to AT&T,’ says Carl Howe, Yankee Group analyst and author of the study. ‘The iPhone creates a halo effect that rubs off.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Steve Jobs likes to call the iPad “magical,” but he might have an even greater magician on his hands; anything that can make AT&T seem “very satisfactory” to so many users is downright supernatural.

  1. I had Verizon for approximately 8 years and had nothing but problems with their billing. When I relocated from VA to DE it was a nightmare and took literally 40 hours of talking to many different people to, almost, get things straightened out. There is much more, but this is about AT&T.

Since going to AT&T I have had no problems with their service or billing. So, it can be said that I am very satisfied with AT&T.

  2. My iPhone works in more places than verizon phones do from observations from the places I travel to … Un-scientific, out side metroplexes verizon sucks. In Phoenix at my neighborhood, verizon sucks …. Hummm

  3. I’m one of the 73 percent,
And have an iPad , which I have to use 3G, when I’m away from home, like rite now, not one problem… My iPhone 3GS is great with AT&T, don’t know what they’re talking about!!!!

  4. No surprise to me. In Seattle AT&T service has always been great for me. I’ve been with them since the Cingular days and have had an iPhone since 2007. No chronic dropped call problems. I have 5 solid bars on the island where I live. Disclaimer: I’ve worked for AT&T since 2009. It’s a great company to work for.

  5. I am very unsatisfied with AT&T. I love my iPhone 3GS but I live southeast of Houston Texas and have dropped calls all the time, service cutting in and out. I’m tryin to figure out who’s worse, them or tmobile. When I had verizon service was amazing. I switched just for the iPhone. When apple opens contract I’m gone.

  6. Even people who don’t like the “phone” experience of the iPhone 4 tend to really like the rest of it. And the people who do not like the phone functionality appear to reside in areas with low AT&T signal strength and/or high demand.

I live southeast of Houston, as well, and T-mobile coverage is adequate, at best. I have experienced dropped calls, inability of one or both parties to hear one another after establishing a link, busy lines and “emergency only” notifications, etc. My experience on business travel is similar or worse, depending on the location.

I have long-standing grudges against AT&T and Time Warner Cable, and I have refused to give either one a buck for about fifteen years. If the iPhone isn’t released on another carrier soon, however, I may have to renege on my resolution and get an iPhone 4 with AT&T. Did I actually just say that???
