Apple seeds iOS 4.1 beta to developers

Apple has just announced via email to iOS developers that iOS SDK and iOS 4.1 beta are now available from the iPhone Dev Center.

Apple’s email notes:

iOS SDK and iOS 4.1 beta are now available from the iPhone Dev Center. Apps built with iOS SDK 4.1 beta should only be tested on devices running iOS 4.1. Make sure to read the Xcode 3.2.4 Readme and the iOS SDK 4.1 beta Release Notes before installing and downloading these new releases.

Apple’s iPhone Dev Center is here.

MacDailyNews Take: And now we wait for people to test iPhone attenuation (preferably people who know what they’re doing).

  1. Downloaded and installed on my mule iPhone 4. Employed the “death-grip”, and was immediately jolted with 10,000 volts.

When I came to, the phone was playing a video of Steve Jobs, telling me that the “software fix” had just successfully been employed.

  2. Other than giving accurate signal strength readings, I cannot imagine that there is a software fix for the antenna problem.

I’m at the bank right now. I have a strong 5 bar signal. I have a bumper on my iPhone 4.

If I do a speed test I get 1.5Mb/s download while not covering the critical antenna points.

If I do a “death grip” with bumper, even though I lose no bars, my speed test drops to around 400-500Kb/s. AND I STILL SHOW 5 BARS!

No software glitch can fix that. At best the patch will show I should have only 2 bars or something.

On the bright side, at least I KNOW I can make my phone work better if I hold it properly.

  3. On a side note, there were several people using iPhones in the bank. Seems like a popular thing to do. I am now at the car wash with 3 other people and they are all on iPhones. One other guy is on iPhone 4. Bottom line is, you can “death gripe” or get on with using your phone and not worry about it.

  4. I’m so sick of you crybabies blathering at every opportunity. What’s in the seed? Who cares?! If you’re not a developer, shut the hell up and wait for the consumer release. If you’re not happy with your purchased Apple product, return the effing device and get your whiny arse money back.

Me? I’m pleased as pudding with my out-effing-standing iPhone 4. If I didn’t like it, I would get my hard earned money back. That’s capitalism, people. Vote with your freaking wallets, er purses, in most of your cases. Maybe murse. Manbag. Whatever…

  5. The way iOS4 works (or should I say doesn’t) on my 3G iPhone, I just don’t trust them anymore. They might as well have bricked the thing for all the crashing, unresponsiveness and freezing up my phone does now. Maybe I’ll just buy a 3GS, those ones are supposedly good, $100 cheaper too. Does anyone know how I can downgrade back to XP oops, I mean iPhone OS 3.x.

That’s how a cellular phone works. Wrap your hand around it and you will mess with the signal, no matter how weak or strong. That’s the problem with this whole issue. People blaming physics on the iPhone.

  7. I’ve been using iOS4 on my 3G since it was available with no problems at all.
No crashing and battery life is about the same as it has always been – not great but a small price to pay for all the good stuff! Phone is 2 years old and works just fine.

  8. I previously posted that one of our phones is a 3GS which was updated and since the update phone was running badly. Crashing, apps wouldn’t stop running and battery draining power. I went to an Apple Store yesterday and they replaced the device. The phone did not have IOS 4 installed. Got home, got on the phone and called tech support as I was connecting to iTunes and was told by an agent to install it on the phone. I did and guess what happened. Same problems all over again. I called back and another agent confirmed that I should NOT have installed it as there have been issues and agent # gave me misinformation. I was also told there would be an update within the next week or two the latest. This info was given to me at 10 a.m. edt. This info confirmed my humble suspicion that this has been a software problem all along. I am bring this phone this phone back this morning as it is impossible to use this device without keeping the phone continuously charged. I am so angry that I listened to the first agent and followed his instructions
and didn’t follow my own gut feeling NOT to have performed the
    Installation.

  9. Since theres a version for iPod Touch G2’s I sincerely hope theres a fix for the large powerconsumption and for the wi-fi that though its constantly on has worse reception than earlier – even on my own wi-fi sitting no more than two meters from my Airport Extreme.

Sluggish controls is also an issue Id like to se a fix on.

  10. Every phone I ever owned told me what way not to hold it as not to block signal strength. Plus I have the 3GS and 1 minute I’ll get 1.5 downloads and run it again bars still holding strong at 5 this time I get 1/3 the download speed. After looking at the steel band what I think what they will find is the insulator between the to has been compromised so the rings touch so the name fits death grip but to the phone no the bars
