I see one problem immediately. Once he’s finished looking at the photos, how does he get out of the photo app? No home button to press.

Maybe a bluetooth keyboard? Maybe just slide it out enough to hit the home button? Or maybe he put a micro paper-clip sized hole to stick a paperclip in to hit the home button… really bring back that nostalgia of manually ejecting a disk.
What really would have been a nice slide show, is if he had some step-by-step pictures of how he did the mod to the Classic. But overall this is such a cool idea, especially with the wireless keyboard suggestion above.
