Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider, “Early reports suggest that Apple has sold most of its first run of international iPad shipments, which has lead one analyst to predict that the iPad will outsell the Mac internationally this quarter.”
“Mike Abramsky with RBC Capital Markets said Friday that he believes between 600,000 and 700,000 iPads will be sold overseas in June, though the number could go even higher. If that forecast is accurate, it would well exceed the 500,000 Macs expected to be sold in June,” Lane reports. “‘Industry contact feedback and previously published surveys point to strong international demand, supported by media reports of long lineups at Apple stores, and strong demand for iPads,’ Abramsky wrote. ‘iPads appear to be stocked out already at some stores and resellers, particularly in countries like Japan, Australia, and U.K. Online availability has been further delayed, to a vague ‘June,’ from June 7 (prior to which was May 28).'”
Lane reports, “If Abramsky’s predictions prove true, it would be a continuation of the trend started in the U.S., where the iPad has had blockbusters sales since it was first introduced in early April. Last week, Abramsky said he believes Apple is selling more than 200,000 iPads per week in the U.S.”

@YØRK
Good point, the kind of people who bought an iPad. This morning there were a lot of 50+ people standing in line, and interestingly, most of them female.
Just got back from getting a replacement 3G iPad and the Apple store told at least 5 to 6 people who came in with the intent of buying an iPad that they had none. The demand for this device is amazing. I bet Jobs had an idea that iPad sales would be good, but not this good.
Just returned from the central Apple store in downtown Toronto. There are two other stores in the city. The guys at my store said they got plenty in their first shipment but expect them all to be gone by Monday. The store was jammed and most people were going home with the maximum two and a variety of accessories. And I was there at 4:30 pm!!!!
@ Ampar,
I know it’s embarrassing. You show them your iPad, and then they show you their matter transporter. Cutting edge my foot.
Analyst estimates are always on the low side. That’s because there is a bigger penalty on the analyst’s reputation on the street if they over project versus under project.
It’s the same thing with how a company’s stock can drop drastically for missing earnings projections by 5 cents but won’t move it beats it by 5 cents.
“Cutting edge my foot.”
Yeah, there may be a sole slice of light on the horizon still toeing the line.
But no matter. (classic Antarean folk humor)
My question is “do these count as computer sales?”
If “yes”, then Apple may well jump a place or two in the ranks! Especially in “World wide” shipments. If “no”, what category WILL they be in? My suspicion is that they will get evicted from “computer status” in a political move in order to avoid the loss of status this would entail.
@cptnkirk
I got mine via Fed-ex on Thursday. I happened to be in Sherway Gardens and passed by the Apple store there, loads of folks, most of them carrying out iPad boxes.
cheers
Well I am international… but it’s May…. oh well 😎
It’s a tad heavier than i expected but once you are immersed in a game, email, web, video, PDF mag or whatever… that physilogy fades away….
And it’s so nicely finished and sharp in the hand…. and the aluminium chassis it A++ !!!
Brilliant!
It should be totally clear now that the best way of estimating the number of iPads sold through the year is best obtained by counting the maximum amount of production of the parts used to make the iPad.
And now for the bad news…
The new iPhone is likely to share many of those same parts. So how many A4s can be made and delivered? What does the flash ram supply look like?
You’ve also got the regularly scheduled iPod refresh coming up around September and rumors of an immenent Apple TV make over.
We may see significant shortages in supply to meet the overwhelming demand across much of Apple’s product line.
Expect a major increase in security guards (and riot police) this holiday season at the Apple stores.
This just in –
“Analyst firm IDC predicts Apple will sell 32 million iPads by the end of 2010”.
LOL – now this might be correct!
Amazing!!!!
Newly iPad sold so well!! I can’t wait to buy a one for may father in the Father’s day.
And more iPad imformation.
We can keep an eyes on the ipad spot.

Based upon the latest Apple info May 31— Apple has sold over 2 million iPads…
Guess that covers the 700,000 due for June.

Just a thought,
en
Since the ramp-up has been reported to be @ 2.5 Million monthly units and the international roll out is bound to take most of the rest of the year, I think one million monthly foreign units is more likely a conservative likelihood.
