Apple’s ‘Meet iPad’ [TV ad] had a pretty strong week with 2.4 million views, good enough for No. 2 on the viral chart. Why? Well, intense interest in the product, obviously, but also a shift in Apple’s strategy, which we also noticed last week,” Michael Learmonth reports for Advertising Age.
“Apple has had a YouTube channel since 2005, but only recently started using it. In the past, they’d focused on driving views on Apple.com, but for the iPad, they allowed the video to be embedded across the web, and views were distributed across 100 different placements, according to Visible Measures,” Learmonth reports. “Apple turned off commenting on its own videos, but a robust conversation bloomed around copies. Interestingly, this posting, with 2,422 comments as of this writing, was most-viewed; Apple’s official version was a distant second.”

Learmonth reports, “The most-viewed spot this week is a video that’s been hanging around the list since the Super Bowl, but got some extra juice from controversy. E-Trade was slapped with a $100 million lawsuit for ‘Milkoholic’ by Lindsay Lohan, and the surge to more than 3 million views.”

Lindsay Lohan is a washed up crack whore.
She had the money to hire a driver, and still chooses to drive drunk, and has been caught multiple times.
Why she would want to bring herself back into the limelight of alcohol is beyond me.
How strange of her to file that lawsuit!
Apple’s iPad ad goes viral (with video)
haha — for a second I thought maybe they added a webcam! Too bad the iPad will be fail of the century. A webcam would’ve made this a best seller. imho
@iMaki
I think you’ll find we already have ‘the fail of the century’ – it’s called the Zune.
Since the iPod feature already multitask, it would be nice if one can have a portion of the window still available to watch iPod video or streaming tv while websurfing.
This commercial shows just how little there is to offer in the iPad. They actually repeat things (like the photos app). They can’t even fill a 30 second spot with features.
@iMaki
I think “fail of the century” is a bit of an overstatement. The iPad will still be a huge success sans camera. I agree that a camera should be there, and I believe in iPad 2.0 it will be. Remember when the iPhone didn’t have apps (for the entire first year of its life)? It was still a huge success. The iPad will follow the same path.
@ Tiger Leopard
You’re joking, right? There are only nearly 200,000 apps available for the iPad, all of which could be used for footage in this commercial. Apple chose to go another way. So what? I’m pretty sure Apple knows what it’s doing. How many billion dollars did you make last year?
Are you serious? Yep, no Apps, I’m sure that will be a lingering problem…
Just look at Apple’s stupid idea for a phone. Nothing much happening there is there?
Maybe the vid was to promote the activities that are easy to grasp and popular among potential customers. Now that would be a funny idea for a commercial. Nah, they shoulda crammed as much as possible into their first commercial.
Say, I’ll have ’em call you, what’s the name of your ad agency again??
No apps, that just might change at roll out. Just maybe.
IMaki, why oh why do you want a picture of nosehairs so badly???
MARK MY WORDS…
Just wait…
The APPS will REALLY make the iPad!

Apple needs to include a few more virtual keyboard shots.
Oh, and I’d do Linsay Lohan in a second!
@ Cubert,
Oh dude, you really need help. I wouldn’t do that slut with iMaki’s schlong. Not that he/she/it actually has one.
@ Cubert,
“I’d do Linsay Lohan in a second!”
That’s some hair trigger you got there son.
She is hot, in a skanky sort of way. That being said, I know I’d last much longer than a second.
The Titillating Trio – Cubert, TowerTone and Tiger Woods … You never see them in the same room ???
Just say’n
I hate that short phrase “just sayin’…”
Just sayin’
iMaki, Apple will release a new iPad same time next year, and it will have a camera. (Hell even the nano has a camera)
