“The publicity whores at China’s Shenzhen Great Loong Brother tablet-PC maker are at it again,” Rik Myslewski reports for The Register.
“First, they raised a worldwild rumpus by floating the prospect of a lawsuit accusing Apple of stealing the design of their tubby P88 slate for the iPad,” Myslewski reports. “Now they’ve blatantly ripped off the look and feel of Mac OS X, pasted it onto Windows, and installed it on their aforementioned touchscreen tablet.”
Myslewski reports, “Back when we first reported SGLB’s threatened lawsuit, we ridiculed the company’s president Wu Xiaolong for saying that the P88 and the iPad were “identical”. That must have stung him, as he apparently went immediately to work making the device even more closely resemble a Cupertinian creation.”

Mr. Wu is smoking too much Chinese crack
I like those addons to help Windows look a bit like OS X. I use that for Parallels (“maclook” is included, but not the os x mouse cursors…).
The Chinese machine must be a joke. Poor kids who wished an iPad for birthday and get instead that thing.
The sad thing is, emerging markets should be the perfect place for home grown Linux powered platforms to take off. Unfortunately the world is so brain-washed and bought off on windows that they rather pay the extra fee, do the extra work, and risk the extra viral infection for the privilege of being more like “American”.
Soon to be reported under the “Blood on the iPad” byline…..
I’d much rather have a iPad-like device that ran a full operating system… than an OS-Limited iPad.
Look, what’s new here?
If Chinese companies are prepared to sell deadly, melamine loaded milk as baby food, why would they hesitate to sell a fake Mac to suckers? In a nation of 1.3 billion peeps, there will be enough suckers to make it profitable. I mean, just look how many Americans buy Dell.
QED.
The Apple logo is on the left side, not he right.
Xiaolong has nothing to worry about from the patent police.
And Apple should wait a year till they’ve sold a few, and then sue them for all the resulting profits x 2 as a penalty.
Blasted Communists.
” bought off on windows that they rather pay the extra fee”
You think they pay for this?? This guy is a pirate. I doubt that he can remember ever paying for a legitimate copy of any software.
@ Then again…
This is why we don’t let you build machines for us adults.
Chinese asswipes are almost like Nokia. Nokia’s Vanjoki brags that they ‘copy with pride’. Can you believe it. Duhhh, we, duhhh, copy with, uhh ya know, uhhhh, PRIDE! Now, these Chinese asswipe copy without shame.
@Acid
A good take. There are a lot of good Chinese companies, maybe some of them are getting ready to do just that.
Incidentally, folks. There are evil American companies, too. Anyone remember “Enron”? This the one of the few that were caught. There are hundreds of others. There are also thousands of good ones.
Why is anyone surprised that a Chinese company is stealing someone else’s intellectual property and designs? The icing on the cake is the use of Windows 7.
Boycott Walmart’s!
Boycot Wal-Mart’s what?
Their low price prescriptions?
Garden supplies?
Towels?
Vizio TVs?
Free entertainment?
Just don’t boycott http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ — some of the best entertainment on the Web. (Got to admit the few times I’ve ventured into Wally World I’m very careful about my appearance after learning about that site…)
I think wu’s role model is the great and successful psystar ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
This will probly end the same way.
Red China may manage to destroy the USA. But one way they will NOT do it is via innovation. Over a long string of years China has funded top notch education and training in technology in order to become an innovation power house. Sadly their strategy continues to be an utter failure, as once again verified in this article.
Why is China so Microsoft? Incentive. China have a few strikes against them:
(1) Communism = no competitive spirit. No competition = no innovation. When everyone, including the dumdums, is equal to everyone else in economic status, no one bothers to push for much of anything.
(2) Criminal State = what results in all communist states. It creates an artificial method of incentive. But sadly criminal behavior and innovation don’t work well together. If you can cheat, who bother actually working?
(3) Ambivalence = when mother government encourages you with one hand but spies, censors, slaps and even murders you with the other. IOW the Chinese government come off as a deranged lover. Fear or safety? Which should you feel today?
Thus we have decades of Red Chinese piracy and fraudulent imitation with more of the same in their future.
