Rogers’ smartphone sales increase thanks to Apple iPhone; Canadian carrier said to be in iPad talks

Apple Online Store “Rogers today provided clues as to the influence of the iPhone on its business through its results for its last fiscal quarter of 2009,” Electronista reports.

“The Canadian carrier said that its total smartphone sales were roughly flat from year to year at about 400,000 but that it sold more iPhones than it did in late 2008, indicating that the Apple device helped save the company from a decline,” Electronista reports.

“The provider also directly credits the smartphone with improving much of the company’s performance in other areas,” Electronista reports. “Executives say the average revenue from iPhone and other smarthphone users is about double that of someone using a regular phone, at roughly $100 versus $50; the turnover among subscription customers has also dropped to a low 1.08 percent.”

  1. Good service to much money. I am in the process of dropping Rogers as my cell phone provider, my internet provider and my cable TV provider. With the new price on going over your internet cap enough was enough.

  2. Before you jump all over that Rogers sucks you should be aware that the play by Bell and Telus to launch a 3G network was for the olympic roaming revenue and nothing else. I have been with a few people that have the iphone on Telus and Bell. No MMS, couldn’t get Whatsapp to work, and internet speed was roughly a fifth of my Rogers browsing sitting at the same table. Think about it before you switch.

  3. We get royally screwed in North America by Cell providers. And in Canada we pay significantly more than the US. I expect we have the highest cell fees in the world. And a 3 year contract at a minimum.

  4. I despise Rogers business practices and culture. I have been waiting to drop them as soon as my contract runs out. I am actively encouraging my friends to drop Rogers and most agree that they dislike Rogers.

The writing is on the wall Rogers. You are going down.

  5. You can buy a 3GS iPhone outright in Canada and use it on Bell, Telus or Rogers. Just pop in a mini sim card and no contract required.

There is only one small Catch 22. None of the 3 carriers have a month to month data package. You want data + phone calls, sign the same 3 year contract as the $99 iPhone. All 3 offer the same package at the same high price.

    Talk about collusion.

  6. If they want to increase sales of smart phones and let canadians join the 21st century, they need to offer data packages that are fair and appealing to it’s customers. Honestly, to me Rogers looks like a greedy bunch of heartless punks, that don’t realize they’ll make more money long term, if they nurture this trend instead of hindering it.
