“As the economy began to turn down in fall 2008, Apple’s executives made a strategic decision to dial down the number of store openings for the next year, betting the downturn would offer them significant savings from depressed lease rates,” ifoAppleStore reports.
“Turns out, they were right, said Apple COO Tim Cook during a session at this week’s Goldman Sachs annual Technology & Internet Conference in San Francisco,” ifoAppleStore reports. “Cook said the company has now turned up the dial on store openings, opening about 50 stores this fiscal year, including Shanghai and London store opening this summer that he called ‘jaw dropping.'”
ifoAppleStore reports, “Cook touched on the world of retail first by saying the iPad will launch first in Apple’s direct channels, including its retail stores, its on-line store, the education sales force, and other direct sales forces. The device will also be available in the indirect channels that have assisted sales, he said, including the Best Buy store-in-store locations. Lastly, the iPad will appear at international Premium Resellers, which Cook said offer ‘incredible Apple experiences.'”

Shanghai surprise, kiddies. London calling.
We’ve got another one coming (finally) here in Columbus, Ohio at Polaris. Should be awesome, as well.
Peace.

Here in Mexico we now have “Almost Apple Stores” A national Apple reseller has started a chain of stores called “iShop” modeled after Apple stores. The manager at the Cancun store told me, with the blessing and help from Apple.
All I know, its great to see every Apple product (and only Apple) on display with knowledgeable enthusiast sales people!
In a fairly small space, they have every MacBook, 2 each 21″ and 27″ iMacs, all the iPod’s, iPhone’s (with activation). They even have ATV hooked up to a HDTV, and a dedicated 21″ iMac displaying the iPad introduction!
here are some pictures of the store,

That’s cool. In Sofia, Bulgaria, there’s a similar non-official Apple store. I wonder if Apple has some international sales unit that handles and supports stores like these.
Thanks Mr Reeee!
feel welcome to look at the other galleries, for a taste of how it is for Americans living (and loving) Mexico.
About time Shanghai got an Apple store. 20 million people in this city folks. Getting Apple support is almost impossible.
meanwhile… the new “Zune” store slogan:
Abort, Retry, FAIL.

One more reason to take a trip to Cancun. The other 20 reasons (inches) are white and outside my window.
@HotinPlaya
Totally cool store. I hope that iShop succeeds since it has done a great job in the store you’ve pictured.

A Polaris Apple store will be great. We could use a second location here in Columbus. Hopefully it will be bigger than the Easton location.
