Can the copiers beat Apple?

Apple Online Store“Apple has some of the best selling computers in the market, it’s the No. 1 music distributor, it sells movies, TV shows, iPods and it’s changing the mobile space with the iPhone and App Store,” Jim Dalrymple writes for The Loop. “It’s also one of the most copied companies in the world, but can anyone beat them?”

“It’s almost funny to watch companies line up to put out products that mimic Apple’s look and functionality,” Dalrymple writes. “Apple puts out a new iPod and all of a sudden there are iPod clones all over the place.”

“It’s not just small companies looking to make their mark — big companies have resorted to blatantly ripping off Apple’s ideas,” Dalrymple writes. “One of the most obvious examples recently is the Microsoft Store.”

“Companies have copied the iMac design and have tried to mimic the functionality of the iPhone, but everyone is coming up short,” Dalrymple writes. “Nobody seems to be able to create that product that sets Apple back on its heals [sic], leaves it reeling from the pain of being outdone.”

Dalrymple writes, “I think there are a couple of reasons for this, which help explain why Apple will not be beat in the markets it competes in.”

  1. My son got a Droid. His boss got the staff Droids. They do support work for Verizon so no wonder. Anyway my son went skiing and did not want to lose his company phone so he let me have it while he was gone. I had it for four days and it was not all bad. That is not a lot of experience but I remember when I got my iPhone it was like that first girl friend. Could not take my hands of from it. BTW my son says while the Droid is ok, it is no iPhone. He did take his iPhone skiing.

You have to give some credit to Apple. They came into the phone arena with no experience at all, and in less of 3 years they are the brand that leads smartphone. Now, like you say, everytime some hw came out, we apple fanboys smack it down: Are you really saying that the only reason why pre, storm, etc had failed to sell millions and millions like iPhone is because apple fanboys talked bad about it?.. come on, you have to be kidding. If it was that simple, MS should be gone long time along…
So, regarless of a review, if majority of people found all iPhone alternatives good enough, they would be buying for millions, just like the iphone, right?
So, really be unbias for a minute, all other hw should be missing something iphone has, otherwise why people don’t buy it in millions like iphone?

  3. “So, really be unbias for a minute, all other hw should be missing something iphone has, otherwise why people don’t buy it in millions like iphone?”

    Well they do actually.

You use terms like “leading smartphone”, leading what exactly? Not sales, not features, maybe profit margin?

  4. Good article and one of the comments to the article especially caught my eye:

“Apple can be copied inasmuch The Beatles can be copied. But all you’d end up with would be The Monkees. And that, my friend, ain’t The Beatles.”

And hence, the head of Microsoft is Monkeyboy.

  5. Unfortunately, because Android will be on tons of phones, it will overtake the iPhone. Because Windows 7 will be on so many computers, it will once again dominate Apple. Apple computers will always have a nice “design” but that will take secondplace to cost effectiveness and market penetration. And then, Steve Jobs will probably die soon. And Apple will slowly circle the bowl…

  6. @I’m a PC

“They can be beat. It’s just a matter of time before someone outdo their products.”

I believe you are a PC or is that POC.

Your writing skills have the limitations that I would expect from a PC user!

Maybe if you stopped binging yourself you could think more clearly.

Bing is going down. Accept it or get over it!

  7. “Actually, the truth is that Apple users are often times the biggest critics of Apple products.”

Well said- that’s exactly right. We are Apple’s toughest critics and also members of the fan club- proud members. We pay a premium for that privilege and it’s OK.

I’ve talked many people into buying a Mac and will continue to do so provided Apple keeps delivering quality and innovations nothing short of brilliant. I believe that’s what built Apple in the first place. The attention to detail sets them apart from the Microsofts and Dells of the world.

  8. Released in late 1993 initially on the Macintosh, Myst received no advertising or marketing. Macintosh gamers, amongst the first personal computer owners with multimedia-friendly CD-ROM drives, immediately latched onto the beautifully drawn graphics…

    Dumba$$.

  9. I would agree with TheConfuzed1.

Many people who are Mac users have been so sick of PC’s troublesome user experience that we’ve found a dream solution in Mac OS X. We just won’t settle for anything less than simplicity and elegance. Whenever Apple comes out with something less than our expectations, you can expect us to be the most vocal group. Take the original iPhone for example, when many of us wished that there would be 3G functionality for better speeds!

  10. bada bing, bada boom, bada BOMB.
I read that somewhere and it says it all about MS, never mind Bing.
Ignore the anti-Apple whiners here. They are just resentful because they drank the MS Kool Aid too long, too deeply. They know they’ve been screwed and they don’t like to admit that.
The correct pronunciation for MS is ‘buyers’ remorse’.
