Apple’s online store is currently offline, displaying the familiar message that often, but not always, precedes new product additions:
We’ll be back soon. We are busy updating the store for you and will be back shortly.
Visit the Apple Store here.
MacDailyNews Note: Update: 12:00pm EDT: Store back online
New products fo sho.
Here we go….
Geez, imagine if Amazon had to shut down every time they wanted to add some new products. Why is this even necessary anymore?
I noticed the Apple site seems much snappier when it’s down. Definitely loads faster.
Mmmmmm more goodies to buy I hope

Come on G5 Mighty-er Mouse!!!
Yay!
A quad core iMac perhaps??? I’d definitely get one right away…
DX, I doubt it’s really necessary. I suspect it’s part of the hype machine. No better way to get thousands of fans around the country mashing reload…
Finally G5 Powerbook!
They’ll be back imminently, thinking different.
Is this what they call a “one , two punch”
C’mon new goodies! I haven’t wiped out my bank account in a while!
Please please, macmini/tv combo!!!
Crap……… I know that this is going to make me spend more money…….
Oh boy! I have been looking up to the Apple tree expecting a new product to fall on my lap.
Eureka!
@DX:
Apples (harhar) and oranges. Both stores have different philosophies. Amazon’s product presentations are… less sophisticated and less tasteful. They often list the same product with different entries (but same reviews), a relic from when they were primarily a bookstore (with different editions of the same book). They also sell a wider variety of products … a LOT wider than Apple.
Apple has a smaller offering, so they can allow themselves to be tasteful, and put more attention to presentation. Also, most of their products are on the high-price side of their respective category, so Apple takes this as an opportunity to fuel the hype surrounding their products.
“Finally G5 Powerbook!”
I literally lol’ed! =]
Appleinsider got some new codes. One of them is a VESA TV mount. Could they really be launching a TV?
Gotta hide my credit card. Gotta hide my cell phone. Gotta disconnect my land line. Gotta lock myself in a closet. Oh I give up, give us the goodies Apple. We want!
Does anybody know a better way of keeping up on this topic without reloading every 15 seconds? There used to be a widget that would tell you when a site’s content changed. It quit working a long time ago.
Down a long time now. Gonna be a big one….
@ DX re,
“Geez, imagine if Amazon had to shut down every time they wanted to add some new products. Why is this even necessary anymore?”
If you have to ask, you shouldn’t be here!
The question on everyone’s lips, “How snappy?”.

MDmac, take it easy on DX, will ya? It’s an entirely reasonable question. What’s more, Apple is being somewhat less than truthful in saying the Store is “DOWN”. Check the Mac pages on the site … still available, still selling Macs. That sign “out front” is merely a warning to casual shoppers – Prepare For Better Things!
DX, taking a site off-line in order to update it is IT’s way of insuring that everybody is getting the same, the most recent, information. Keeps things neat, even, proper.
Just gonna be pictures of Steve Ballmer in Lingerie with some transvestite dominatrix shoving an iPhone up his… as he laughs gleefully at how much money he’s personally making off Apple stock.
Remember when Apple was totally on the skids, losing about a billion a year, and Steve came back, and MS and Apple settled the age old who stole what from who law suit, and part of the settlement was that MS buy 50,000 shares of Apple stock? I wonder how much that stock is worth now, if they still have it.
