As if that’s not bad enough news for Palm’s assemblage of Apple castoffs, Paczkowski reports that Morgan Joseph Analyst Ilya Grozovsky recently wrote in a research note to clients, “‘We do not have significant unit assumptions for this product given the continued success of the iPhone at AT&T.'”

Oh, and BTW, Paczkowski also reports, “Grozovsky is among those analysts who believe Pre sales are slowing. According to his checks, Pre sales fell from 200,000 units in June to 100,000 in July. He expects them to fall even further in August. And should this occur, a price cut may follow.”
MacDailyNews Take: Double ouch. Look on the bright side, Palm, with so few units out in the wild, it’ll be a cinch to clandestinely keep track of your users’ locations and apps.

Apple is really putting the squeeze on Palm. With the iPhone 3G at $99 and the iPhone 3GS at $199, they can’t win.
Move along I-Phone lemmings, nothing to see here. Palm can simply license Windows Mobile for Pre and all their troubles will be over. I commend Palm on giving webOS a shot, but Windows Mobile will give them a much needed shot in the arm.
I’ll remind you MAC sheep that you can edit Office documents with Windows Mobile, and you can’t do that on an I-Phone. You can make burp and fart noises however.

I haven’t seen a dancing Asian or Yoga woman commercial peddling the Pre in quite some time. It’s been all iPhone terrorist contact fist bump and Crackberry commercials. Oh, and that God forsaken PC Lauren and HP Lauren tag team commercial.
With the lack of advertising, it’s clear that the Pre is not gaining the market or mind share it had hoped and probably anticipated for. They need to shut it on down and give the money back to the shareholders before their shares sink back to a more realistic valuation.

I am sad to report that the red haired freak Yoga woman hit the airwaves in my TV market (central New York State) this past week. She’s still disturbing to see, but they have edited out the most freaky bits from the rest of the ads.
Apparently Palm are desperately thrashing around US markets looking for someone to buy the Pre thing. Undoubtedly the cost for ad time has dropped in my area, explaining why ‘She’ arrived. She does not make me happy. No. 🙁

What’s the point of being part of a like-minded group if you can’t revel in your successes and perceived superiority?
I’ll admit that we sometimes take too much joy in the missteps and misfortunes of other companies. Historically, however, key representatives of these companies have baited, disparaged and belittled Apple, Apple products, and Apple supporters (a.k.a. fanboys, fanbois, fanatics, subjects of the SJ reality distortion field, etc.) with their own distortions, lies, and outright fantasies. Human nature being what it is, it feels good to see karma in a cage match with Palm, M$, Dell, and all of those other stooges.
But what you will also see in this forum (mixed in with the partisan politics and religious zealotry) is well-reasoned analysis and criticism of Apple products. Like Apple, we are only satisfied with the very best.

Hey, what’s with everyone pulling out the “Eos” name lately? Volkswagen did it, too. Thing is, a car is very different from a camera, but I would think that if the Palm had a camera built into it, Canon would have grounds to sue. Anybody remember Apple Records…?

We all love to pile on Palm, the former leader in handheld electronic gadgets. But, inexplicably, Wall Street still likes them. PALM has outperformed AAPL stock for the last year!
Either Wall Street knows something we don’t, or they’ve completely lost their minds. Both, probably.

Hard to judge. My instinct would be to short Palm in a major way. But there might be some company that decides that acquiring Palm is a good idea, and that would kill a short position. In my opinion, it would also hurt the acquiring company because they would end up paying too much for far too little. There are many instances of poor major acquisitions, and few instances of beneficial major acquisitions.
One topic that has faded from the public limelight is Apple’s acquisition of P.A. Semi for $278M in April of 2008. I am waiting for the results of that acquisition to make a splash in terms of Mac products. It has been roughly 16 months since the acquisition, and the general consensus was that it would take at least 18 to 24 months for a P.A. Semi chip to make its was into a Mac product. I am looking forward to it!
