Borders survey refers to Apple tablet as ‘iPad’

“Now, we don’t really know what to think about this one, considering how many rumors are swirling about upcoming Apple devices at the moment, but make of it what you will. An online survey currently being conducted by Borders bookstore lists the ‘Apple iPAD (large screen reading device)’ in one of its questions about e-readers,” Laura June reports for Engadget. “There along with the Amazon Kindle, the Kindle DX, the Sony Reader and the Plastic Logic Reader is the option to check ‘I plan to buy an Apple IPAD this year.’

June reports, “It’s safe to say that there are two options here: either Borders has access to some privileged Apple tablet / Kindle killer info that we, the wondering masses, do not (and yet is still making blunders like ‘Blackberry’ and ‘Apple iTouch’) — or they’re just assuming that there must be some truth to all the fuss.”

  1. I’m sure that the Kindle is fine for reading books ( if you don’t mind reading off what looks like a low quality passive matrix screen) but I want to see the photographs of what I’m reading about when I’m reading magizines and newspapers. That’s where the Kindle falls short and an iPad would shine.

That and the multi-use iPhone OS versus the single use Kindle thing.

  2. See this “Centerfold”

(hope formatting works, don’t do it often)

  3. @ pablo,

I saw that Tommaso Gecchelin concept before. Pretty neat.
It’s just a matter of time until we get those flexible screens.

That scent gizmo looks like it came off of a robot rhino. The poor things get poached even when they’re mechanical.

  4. I heard there were to be two versions.
One with the minimum specs required for OS X, (the Min-iPad)
and another that is maxed out (Max-iPad).

Still no word what color they will be….

  5. how interesting. i bet apple will want to look at the results. the other manufacturers might be annoyed though – they might rightly presume that some buyers of their devices might see this survey and postpone a purchase decision…

  6. Like Jobs said, few people read that much anymore. These folks are thinking too much inside the box. It is going to be a full fledged touchscreen operated Snow Leopard computer with Cocoa Touch adaptations. Anything less than that is a waste of hardware.

  7. No, No, I don’t really think it’s a good idea, iPad? Blah, What’s next in the name circuit,, iTampon or the idouche? Uh NO, it’s Apple, How about the, “iMake it touch” or “i’M the best computer company out there so all the rest can suck it” I dunno, but lets call it something that sounds like you would use it every day other than, “just that time of the month”

  8. There are many trying to say macbook touch, or itablet, etc. but those are truly off base. Tablets have been associated with poor sales and Apple execs already stated recently that if they did push out a product it would not be a notebook or another macbook.

Apple’s more recent naming scheme of using “i” and short easy to remember names like iPhone, iPod etc. has been very successful. The public in most inquires already has jumped on the idea of the name Apple iPad.

Unless they are coining some other name I think it will be something like Apple iPad, the iPad Touch, etc. And why not, easy to remember, no one has a product with that exact name.

On a side note apple is tricky. I checked the copyright and trademark office records online. I did not see any new apple applications for anything from apple, but then some of their existing products aren’t listed there either. I remember when the iPod was coming out some other company had used the name iPod. Apple did not care and simply named it the “Apple iPod”.

PS I’m getting a Apple iPad if it is a decent product.

  9. Here’s a thought……maybe its all BS and there is no iPad or iTablet! I’m sick of hearing all of these “rumors” about a tablet when we have ZERO proof of Apple even considering making a tablet computer.

I think most of the analysts know this………all of this iTablet talk is more FUD to set the stock price up for a big fall when Apple has a few announcement events and DOES NOT release an iTablet. Jobs has been quoted in the past that he doesn’t think Tablets are wanted or practical. Steve doesn’t normally rule something out and pull a complete 180 and develop it a year or so later. All of the products they have released and will release have all been on a long term plan and vision. He said the same about Netbooks…….and no we still don’t have an Apple Netbook…..surprised?

If I’m wrong and the rumors are correct, I will post an apology but iCal my comments now because I’m telling you, I don’t believe an Apple iTablet is coming…..EVER. I will say this, I know that if Apple DOES shock me and releases one it will be a game changer like all the other products it creates and will be vastly different from what we envision an iTablet to be.

Before you shoot your mouth off……get a quote ready to back it up.

Since there’s been a NUMBER of times supposedly, some proof of it shouldn’t be too hard right?
